    OK Daredevils...

So it sounds like we have a bunch of adrenaline junkies (much like myself) ... and a few not-so-much [:)] but, I'm sure you still have many a good story!

What's the scariest thing you've ever done? Either on purpose or not. But please specify, particularly if it's something that happened on accident that other people may do on purpose [:D]

    OK, bring it!

On a platform scissor lift 35 feet in the air standing outside the rails and and holding on by wrapping one leg around a rail to reach something and fix it.

I have threaded wire to feed a transformer through the innards of a main switch board energized at 480 V 3-phase and 2,000 amps. Just for comparison, it takes 1 amp or less to kill a person. And I did this without insulated gloves or isolator pads.

This thread may make me look like a complete idiot.

First, Ron I think that classifies you as crazy as well.  Knowing that makes me feel a little better.

I have "prarie surfed" for years.  You tie the body of a wheelbarrow (sans wheels)to a truck & are drug around behind the truck.  We used to have competitions to see who could hold on the longest & who could handle the most speed before falling off or flipping over & getting road rash all over thier bodies.  At 40mph, I can balance for about 45-60 seconds depending on the bumps & curves in the road.  The top speed that I reached was 72mph (according to the driver).  The fall from that speed was awful, I literally had no skin from my chin down to the center of my boobs & again from just underneath my boobs down to my knees.  It was one of the most painful things that I have ever felt.  I would totally do it again.  Only this time I'd wear long sleeves & jeans instead of shorts & a tank top.

Scariest thing? Giving birth...it's like the movie Alien sorta....no control over whats happening...natural or not....it feels like your someone else. It's terrifying the first time. I cannot think of anything scarier. And the fear doesn't end when your done pushing...then they send this tiny squalling thing HOME with your and it's YOUR responsibility for the rest of it's or your...LIFE. That's fear folks. Of the most primal sort.

Scary things?  I've hung, along with 5 other guys, suspended underneath a helicopter from a 3 inch manilla rope while flying over a small bay at an altitude of about 400 feet or more.  (It's called SPIE rigging-Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction)  And it's fun!

    Does that count?

Gina, I could NOT agree with you more!  And, in my day, if you ASKED for pain meds, you weren't a "real woman".  Forget if you got an infection and couldn't breast feed...you were just a complete and total failure.

The only thing that comes close for me is stepping into the grass and spying a SNAKE!

Now, I'm not a wuss.  I've faced down a man who clearly intended to rape me and walked away unscathed, while HE had some rather nasty claw marks and a decidely higher pitch to his voice.  I knocked my ex on his keister in a crowded bar at a convention because he TOUCHED me (abusive sob and he was giving me grief cuz I didn't give in and give him his own way with the kids...I did warn him first......) and he's a BIG man and I'm not such a big woman.

I MAKE myself do elevators. I'd just as soon walk up 20 flights of stairs, but I make myself control that fear......and I MAKE myself look when I'm driving over a bridge......but by golly some things are just TOO MUCH! [:D]

Back when I was a substitute teacher I had to preform the Heimlich. Don't even know if that is the correct spelling.  Having a kids life in my hands was terrifying. I threw up when all was well.  Now I'm in the medical field and CPR is no big deal because it's a team effort but if I was by myself I think I would faint.

Stepped out of a plane at 13,500 feet.

My bro-in-law is a skydiver and I did a tandem jump about 12 years ago or so.  He also jumped with me and videoed it with a camera on his helmet and one other guy - I actually joined up hands with them for a three way (that's what it is called, folks) during the free fall.  Free fall was something on the order of 30 seconds.  Really wasn't stressed at all until the final 200 feet or so, but I did land on my feet (though the shoot caught a cross wind and pulled us over).  You could not wipe the grin from my face for a full day!

The scariest daredevil type of thing that ever happened to me wasn't on purpose. I was hanging out with a friend (who I didn't know all that well) and we went over to a guy's house that she knew. So we decided to go out for a motorcycle ride. She was on the back of a bike with one guy and I was with the other. The motorcycle was a Ninja type... It's been a few years, but I'm pretty sure it was the first time I met the guy. So of course it's a great idea to just hop on a motorcyle with him! [&:]

So, it's my FIRST TIME EVER on a motorcyle and the guy starts doing wheelies. I was scared to death, but didn't want to be a fun ruiner, so I went along with things and held on for my life. It's a good thing that I've ridden horses and had some experience with staying on when they're rearing. Anyway, that was the least of my problems. The guys go down a road with lots of twists and turns at 120 MPH! [:-] The bike was leaning all the way to the side as we made the turns and I'm pretty sure I could have stuck my hand out and touched the road. [:o] They also didn't tell me that I needed to keep my head behind the driver's helmet, so I kept looking around him to see what was coming up because I was terrified. Needless to say my neck was practically snapped off from the force of the wind. I eventually made it back alive and the guy said that I was like saran wrap when he started going fast. It was a terrifying, exhilarating experience.

That weekend I also had a two different threesomes involving the same girl and two different guys. (One of the guys was the motorcycle driver) That was a crazy time in my life.

So, genius that I am, I got on a bike with somebody I hardly knew AGAIN a few years later (This was about 2 years ago). Not nearly as eventful, but still everytime you get on a motorcycle it's a dangerous thing.

I'm definitely an adrenaline junky AND a scaredy cat/safety nerd at the same time.... the weirdest possible combination. I love 4 wheelers, horses, jet skiis, promiscuous behavior etc. and at the same time am terrified of all the consequences. A lot of those things have change since I've been married. EXCEPT that since my husband is in a band, his shows are in bars and a lot of times I overdo it with drinking. The last time I had too much to drink I blacked out and got into a street fight with a punk rocker girl that's about 1 1/2 times my size. Long story short, she's the girlfriend of my husband's guitar player and she punched my husband in the face. I don't remember much, but apparently I said NO ONE hits my husband and ran over and punched her in the face. She started teetering off the curb and I shoved her so that she went flying in the street. She said a few choice words to me and then I straddled her and just started punching away.... they eventually peeled me off of her, there was lots of other drama going on at the same time. We got the heck out of there and I was hysterical as I "came to". The next day I had a hangover from h*ll and vowed never again to drink so much that I wasn't in control of my actions. Amazingly, the only bruises I had were on my arms, legs, and feet from rolling around on the asphalt.

The weird thing is that my life is amazingly normal most of the time and I'm generally the type of person that's very quiet with a lot of class. Every once in awhile though, I just let my hair down and go nuts.

    Scary or stupid..you decide..

In the late 80's I worked for ac construction crew, and as one of the new guys,it was my responsibility to get all the shingles u p to the roof for the roofers.

These buildings were 3 stories up.

well,as a joke, the shingle guys decided to take theladder and drive away after the last bundles were sent up.(Electric ladder)This left me and another guy who was affraid of heights..lol

Well wouldn't you know, the whole area of construction shut down to watch the unfolding drama. Many of the workers yelling encouraging things to us like "JUMP!" or "JUMP SISSY"

About 10 feet away from the building  there was a pile of sand about 6 feet high.
Wouldn't you know, the guy that was with me,took the advice from the guys on the ground and jumped..I saw him walk away with a huge smile on his face. And then all eyes turned to me.

I was on my 3rd practice run when i decided to abort the mission, only i was in mid air.I had a cartoon moment where i was suspended in the air,and probably had Wille Coyotes look of disbelief on my face .

I hit smack dab in the middle of the pile.

Later on of the guys that was on the ground came up to meand called me a crazy bastard..lol

    1. 1977 DH and I went skydiving. I am afraid of heights, so I don't know what I was thinking! We spent about 4 hrs in an old barn practicing. 'Count to 10. Pull the cord. Count to 10. Pull the Cord' We finally got in this old prop plane that had no doors. I started getting real nervous. I decided I would have to jump first or I would chicken out. I stepped out of the palne onto this 4" slippery metal bar. The wind is trying to blow me off. My knees are shaking. Everyone is yelling "JUMP! JUMP!" I have a death grip on the bar. I can't let go. I finally closed my eyes and jumped. I forgot evrything I'd practiced. Most importantly to pull the rip cord! I kept my eyes shut until I felt myself stop falling and started to go up. The shute had opened. Well it was so pleasant. I was just floating around looking at the scenery thinking how lovely it all was. Lah, lah, lah. I soon became aware that the lovely scenery was getting closer and closer, faster and faster!!!!! The shute I was in was a war surplus shute, designed to get the soldiers to the groung ASAP. Before I could finish screaming "SH.." I was on the ground. It was like getting hit by a semi. I walked around in pain for a week!

The next summer DH took me for a 5 day white water rafting trip down the Fraser River. Now that's an experience!

Ooh! Those are some good ones guys! ... some more painful than others, as well! Yeouch!

Gina, I hadn't thought of giving birth as scary, but it makes complete sense. That's one of my biggest fears. Children. [:-]

Ed, that sounds AMAZING!!! Oh, I'd looove to try that! Were you in the military or is this a ride I can pay for somewhere? [:)]

Amanda, Yikes!! You definitely have a sense of adventure in you! And hopefully a healthy immune system [8D] OUCH!

3Labs, that's a good one. I bet that would be absolutely terrifying... saving lives. Huge stakes in that. Thanks for being there for us!

Luvntzus, WOW! 120mph? Yipes!... Wheelies? For some reason that sounds much scarier to me than jumping out of a plane. I think it's cause you were being packed, versus in control of it yourself. If I were in control, I maybe more fearless. If someone else is driving... [:'(]

Mhaddog, that takes some cahones! 30ft down? I've jumped from that into water... but onto ground? Nicely done and so much for being a 'sissy'!

Count me in for skydiving. While I'm not afraid of heights I am afraid of falling. I think that's the climber in me... falling is not the desired result! So it went against my grain to freefall for 10,000 ft. BUT MAN WHAT A RUSH! I still grin thinking about it. I would also do it again [:)]

Scariest thing, I've climbed mountains, rocks, ice... buildings. I've jumped horses. I've bungy jumped.. i've skydived. But the scariest things I've faced (on purpose) was when I first started doing improv. My first performance, waiting to go onstage.... ((palms sweat just thinking about it) Knowing I had NO idea what I was going to say... and there were people there waiting to see us and see us 'be funny'... whew. I was much more intimidated and just plain FRIGHTENED of that than I was sky diving or taking that next tough move climbing,

But, again, what a rush! [:D]

(LMAO) Sorry Ron, I really, really didn't intend on not responding to yours. Apparently it's just not our day!

The scissor lift... you're dedicated to your job... maybe too much! lol and electricity -- I maybe dumb... but you wouldn't find me messing with anything much stronger than a blow dryer. You must know what you're doing. Or..... [8D][8D][8D]

    (since I'm on a roll, I might as well... [:D] )

Glenda -- I don't blame you. Snakes should not be trusted. No one will ever convince me otherwise. [:'(]
