IKC Show in Chicago!

    IKC Show in Chicago!

Well, I got to go to my first dog show ever this past weekend, the IKC show in Chicago. It was awesome. We went Saturday and Sunday, and even my husband enjoyed himself. We found an organic dog treat company with all wheat-free treats (Sally is allergic to wheat) and had an AWESOME time checking out the different breeds benched there. I got to meet dogs that you just never see around here.

We have been researching breeds for a second dog when we get a house and ridgies are on the list--the ridgies that we met, and their people were awesome, friendly and helpful. I even had one ridige owner (not a breeder) give me her card and said to email her if I had any further questions about the breed.

We also discovered that my husband has a deep-seeded and previously unidentified whippet obcession. Roughly a third of our nearly 300 pics are of whippets. He wanted to see the whippets, pet the whippets, and even remembers the name of the whippet from that show that was on E! for a while "Dog Show Moms and Dads." I promised him that someday we can have a whippet.

I would have to say the some of the most outgoing and friendliest dogs were the Amstaffs. You'd just look at them and they would whiggle all over with joy. It was really funny watching them judged--the judge would approach ant the tail would start going.

All in all, I was extremely impressed with the behavior and temperments of just about every dog and human we met there....

Did you get to see the Best in Group (I think it's called) Saturday night?

I didn't stay to see the group judging. I took a couple of lazy kids who were getting hungry. I still don't know who won Best in Show. I have been going to IKC for many years and found this year to be unusual. A lot of breed clubs would have informational booths up and have contests to see who had the best booth but I didn't see that this year. I was really disappointed with the Boston Terrier folks. It turns out only 6 BT's were entered this year. Usually quite a few breeders are there and they hang out. I only spoke with one and it was through her that I found out that Kip, the same BT who won the breed at Westminster, had made it to group at IKC. Either way, we had a good time and I spent WAY too much money!

    hi all
Figured this was a good place to introduce myself, I too attended the IKC show in chicago, and being from chicago originally its was great to be there, overall a very exibitor friendly show. My wife and I traveled from North East Pa, to chicago to show our french bulldogs, I have to say the quality of the dogs at this show were wonderful, I completely enjoyed the competition, and even though the best we did was win our class it was great.

during the benching time we really enjoyed chatting and educating all the people on our wonderful breed, the spectators were all very vey nice and considerate to, all of our dogs and us. if wasnt for the distance from home to go I would do this show again, but after 1400 round trip in the van with my lovely wife and 8 dogs, i was glad to be home.

She was my favorite! I thought about smuggling her out under my shirt, along with the kick butt male ridgie I met, but figured that might be frowned upon.....

You are absolutly correct i could have gotten the results, if i hadnt been a little tied up with 8 dogs of ours, plus 1 from canada, my wife and her friend anne plus that being the first time in 5 years i stepped in a show ring, but you are right i should have thought of you and those results. I wont forget again. bad jeff bad jeff

This is a dumb question, but what is IKC?  Does your dog have to be registered with IKC to show here?  I'm not familiar.
