    Hazing in High school?

I think we (Tx area) had some other stuff a year or two ago...with a wrestling team was it? I can't recall now...but the coach actually got charged...but I don't think anything ever came of it. It's just so weird to me that it'd be something you'd encounter in high school...lol. It's hard enough without that! I wanted my kiddos in some type of sport because I think it's good for them...but certainly not if this is the sort of thing you have to endure to be on the team!

I went to an all girl school and while things happened that many could not imagine coming from a catholic school, this was definitely not one of them.

I asked DH since he played all sports in high school and he said that freshman would get the crappy jobs (picking up after the seniors, etc.) this never happened.  He did say that it would be impossible for the coaches to not know what is going on, they either supported it or ignored it...said it wouldn't surprise him if they egged them on to toughen them up.  Alot of these high school coaches (particularly the assistant coaches) are young themselves.

It just seems kind of counter productive to a "team" atmosphere...

2 of my kids are in high school and they never had anything like that happen. They each play a couple of different sports. Our house gets toilet papered before a big game though.

people did get the occasional "swirly" at our school, but i never would have considered it hazing. as far as i know there was never anything at our school that could be called hazing. i never participated in sports, but i took alot of the photo's for school events and never noticed anything other than immature, if not good-natured teasing and rough housing.

Aw, I can't get the video to play on my computer[>:]

I was in the swim team yet the idea of doing anything like that never came up.  I guess it was because swimming was such a different type of sport compared team sports such as football or basketball and there was no such thing as "games" it was more like every team was friends with the other schools and it all worked out fine.

I went to HS from 1998-2002 to a private school of about 1300 kids.  I'm not aware of any hazing that went on while I was there or now (my sis is a senior).  The only sport I did was gymnastics, and we were a small, tight-knit team.  There was no need for hazing, I mean if you can't do gymnastics, you can't be on the team, it's pretty obvious.  I can't think of any sports or other clubs at my school that would need hazing.  You have to try out for everything, so if you're not good enough you don't make it.  There's no purpose for hazing other than just being cruel, and I don't think people did it.  They certainly had many other ways of being cruel to people, but not hazing.

My swim team experience was the same - no way would a hazing come out of that group.  I find the hazing incidents of late, however, have been much more specific to individuals than to any organized sports.  (Aww, heck, don't get me started on how many school are cutting funding for school sports anyway...)

I just graduated and I wouldn't call it hazzing but yup our school could be mean to under classmen. I was never in a sport...I practically failed PE...Im not athletic.

But my bf played football and baseball and so did my other two boyfreinds, they all played Baseball and football and they were never mean to anyone...that I know of, There was always teasing at my school but usually it just playful.

I can't view the video either!  What exactly are they doing to each other?  In my day, hazing was strictly limited to College Fraternities and it was VERY bad.  One of the houses on my campus closed down due to a hazing incident in which a girl was drugged and gang raped on the premises.  What they did to her was horrific and those involved all cited it as part of a mandatory hazing ritual.  wtf??   That's the worst hazing incident I've ever been privy to.  It was totally out of control at my school though.  It was NOT uncommon to be on one's way to class in the morning and see the following:  A naked pledge, gagged, bound and hog tied to the DG anchor where he'd been all night.  It was ALWAYS something and people just became immune to it.  I think hazing in any form is useless and despicable.

In this case it was heads in the toilets. In the other case I was speaking of...the wresting one where the coach was picked up along with the kids, there was some foreign objects in foreign places involved I believe, and battery/assault.

Think the worst college one here was the man who died after being forced to drink water.
