    Vacuum vent.....

I have been taking some of DH's and my small issues off of the table. I have been cleaning during the week to make the weekends free. It has been taking a lot of energy for me to do this. I have succeeded though. Anyway, we have the Rainbow E series vacuum. It cleans great but..It is heavy. It has to be filled with water to use. There are many hoses and heads to it. Frankly, I dread vacuuming because of the work involved just to get the vacuum started. Not to mention the putting away process.

Can anyone suggest a different vacuum? Maybe I can convince DH to replace it. We bought it 6 years ago because my DH had grown up using the Rainbow vacuum.

My in-laws got me a Sebo for X-mas. I told them I was leaning toward a Dyson but the vacuum store guy said this one was better (at the price, I'm SURE it was better for his commission!). I was disappointed at going back to a vacuum that used bags - but hey, they were paying.

I ADORE this vacuum! It is very light and extremely easy to maneuver. It is also unbelievably quiet compared to the Hoover. The brush really brings my sad 30-year-old carpet back to life. The motorized hand tool even get Dalmatian hair off of velour upholstery. The hoses & tools are extremely easy to use and attach. It is also the lowest-clearance upright I have ever used. It gets under all my furniture except for one of the beds with really low rails and the hide-a-bed couch (even a canister wouldn't reach there). It has a better than hepa quality air filtration system and is recommended by many allergy foundations.

The very best part? This thing would suck the chrome off of a trailer hitch and it hasn't clogged on a single Lego or dog toy carcass. If I run into a large piece of about anything all I hear is a "bloop!" and it's gone. No rattling around and spitting it out. No fishing around in the guts and removing screws, rollers, belts & misc. parts to get at clogs lik my #$&% Hoover Windtunnel. I'm serious. I haven't clogged this thing yet and I've sucked up at least a pound of legos and an unknown quantity of wooden blocks that Lucy turned into toothpicks.

Now, I just hope the thing lasts. I've had great vacuums before. The Hoovers always worked GREAT for the first two years or so before they just would quit picking up or would start clogging on every little thing they actually did manage to pick up. Plus the cost of filters & belts was really adding up. I have read on review websites that this is the vacuum the people are turning to in Europe after they are let down by their Dysons and the Sebo does seem to get good reviews on reliability. They do cost about $700 bucks, though. But if it lasts longer than ten years it will be cheaper than the 4 Hoover & other brand vacs I've bought in the last decade.

Your husband was lucky then hehe, i grew up with a 70's vacuum, you had to be on your knees all the time scraping by hand each carpet inch with the tube that was having the smallest hole ever, imaging me at 8 years old vacuuming my room with that dinosaur [;)]

That is definitely a way of keeping this in perspective.

Can you please tell me what exact Sebo model you have?

    Its a [linkhttp://www.sebo-vacuums.com/Media/products/X4XTRA6.jpg]Sebo Automatic X4[/link]

Pricey little bugger. I know if I had to shell out that kind of dough out of my own pocket I'd think twice. But I'm REALLY glad my in-laws have bigger pockets than me! Everytime a lego or chunk of dog toy goes "bloop" and disappears into that vacuum I just smile!

Wow. No other suggestions? On a forum with animal owned people, I could have sworn that there would have been more suggestions.

Well, I LOVE my Filter Queen bagless canister vac, but they aren't making them anymore......

Dyson!  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Dyson.  It's a pleasure to vacuum.  It's bagless and doesn't clog, ever.  I've also sucked up all sort of crazy things with no problem.  It's faster than a conventional vacuum as well because you don't need to pass over each area more than once.  I only vacuum once/week and without fail, every single time - I am shocked and disgusted by what I see in that canister!!!  (and thrilled that it's no longer on my floors!)

I used to sell vacuums at Sears...so i have a few suggestions! My favorite is the kenmore progressive canister. I bought this for my mom...it's $399 when it's on sale. It got a bag (bagless sucks if you have pets, unless it's a dyson) It's very easy to use and versatile. It has a stair grip (to lock on the stairs) with a power mate attachment to clean your stairs and in the car, couch too. The wand extends to like, 5 feet and disconnects at the power head and at the top to use handheld. It's very easy to clean the ceilings. The hose is about 9 feet long. It does carpet and bare floors, and has suction control.

After the progressive, i like the dyson. It's easy to use, doesn't get clogged up, and easy to clean. The only problem i have with the dyson, or any upright at all is that it's very difficult to get under the furniture, and it's hard to vacuum the stairs with.

I have the self-propelled hoover windtunnel. I have been happy with it so far, except that my belt breaks like every 3 months. It's VERY heavy to take up the stairs though, and i don't really like uprights.

let me know if i can help you with anything else, i'm a vacuum dork :)

We do not have any stairs :) We live in a ranch style house.

Do the Dysons live up to the hype?

I have a bagless hoover that was a gift a couple weeks ago, that thing almost goes foward by itself (i dont know if thats with every vacuum since is the first time i have a new one in years)

I also can see the dirt that was in the floor getting into the vacuum basket, it would be a perfect vacuum if it had a retractile cord, but since it was a gift i wont complain

I love the dyson. I used to have customers come and thank me for selling it to them, after they had it in their homes a while. I like that you don't have to replace the filter...you just rinse it and let it dry overnight. It's definitely my second pick in terms of vacuums...like i said, i'm a canister girl all the way.

[:(] Oooh, I miss my Kenmore bagless canister vac. 2 years ago I decided to replace it, just cause it was old and I had some $$ (silly). So gave the Kenmore away and am on my second piece of junk from Target. Now that this is a dog home, I guess I'll bite and get a real vacuum.

We have something called a Dirt Devil reaction.
It works fine..not great...not awful...just fine. I am  not spending $500+ on a vacuum. I just can't do it. Hair is a fact of life around here....heck even I shed lol.
