    Lookie at what we found!

My room-mate is a biology student- also an avid animal rescuer. So we are at the park with the intention of feeding the ducks, when we find a duck that's got a scar on his neck- and not moving. His wings have been clipped, and it looked like he had been dumped, and on his own for a while.

We have him in a dog crate, with straw on the bottom, just until monday when a vet opens. He gets to waddle around the backyard (so far) durring the day.  There is an aviary vet around here. We are going to see if we can get him to a farm somewhere (a farm where they dont eat them).

We would keep him, but I'm not sure we have the means or the room for him.

As for the dogs, they aren't sure what to think of him. They only get to be around the duck supervised.

Awww..poor duck, but sweet doggie. I can't imagine my girls sitting that calmly with a duck nearby [:)].   I hope you can find a nice home for the duck and thanks for caring enough to take care of it in the meantime.

DH wants to get a duck someday to eat all the bugs out of the garden, but I have my doubts that Gracie wouldn't think it was walking, quacking chew toy! Good for you guys for rescuing it!

    How cute!

I'm pretty sure that my two would turn that duck into a rather large poultry dinner in very short order!

Wow - really lovely of you to rescue the poor thing - I won't go into what I think of the act of dumping him.

I might be anthropomorphizing, but I really think he looks, I don't know, grateful?  Relieved?

    He's cute!

Aww. What a cute duck! And it's adorable how sweet that golden looks..

Is the duck as skinny as s/he seems?  The breast bone seems to be relatively prominant.  Poor kid...dumped because "a duck can take care of itself", right?  Just like all the animals who get dumped in the country...[:@]

I believe you've got a Pekin duck there. Not normally a wild duck. Surely it was someones pet. Those are not the better quality meat birds.  He looks very good. Good size.  Good luck in getting some help.  Ducks don't like to be alone they should always be in a pair, just in case you do decide to keep him.  Also ducks don't require alot of room outside.  They can live in a dog house, a barrel. Anything can be used as a shelter. They just have to have clean water at all times to clean themselves and to drink.
