You know you grew up in the 80s if...

I COMPLETELY forgot about the MASH game!!!  That's too funny!  I miss being able to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings on network TV.  I actually bought one of the Fraggle Rock DVD's (has 4 episodes).  I'm still wanting to buy the 1st season.  Way too many of those apply to me.  [8D]

Pretty scary since this is the only one I didn't know...

    7. You got super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

Oh my gosh...I was born in 1987, so I was more of a 90's child, but all but 2 or 3 of those still applied to me! I guess I was a few years behind...and somehow still managed to be an 80's kid...lol.

I have SO many pictures of myself with a stupid side ponytail and light-up LA gears with hot pink sparkle laces.

And I always wanted Garbage Pail Kids...and my mom would never let me have them because "they were gross." I would just look at me friend's cards at recess and think that I was really getting away with something. [:D]

Okay, so I still don't get the MASH game. I went to the site, but how was it played in the 80's? I remember a card game when I was a kid where you used to pick four boys, and put down the four kings, then you'd ask a bunch of questions and lay down four cards on each of the kings, and the highest card would be your answer. Like "Which one will I marry?" and which ever one the highest card landed on, that was your answer. Is that the same thing?

Pretty much you just used a pen & paper.  You wrote the letters M-A-S-H at the top.  Then you wrote a list of 5 boy/girl names, 5 colors, 5 autos, 5 #'s (for kids), 5 locations, & 5 jobs.  Last of all you pick a number.  Then you count up to that number for each group and cross one off.  You keep doing it until you only have 1 left.  Then you "predict" your future.  Who's the hubby/wife, what color your auto is going to be, # of kids with said person, Location where you lived (or honeymoon depending on how you played), the job you had and then finally what type of house you would live in.  We had a lot of fun playing it when we were younger.

Ah, thank you Melinda. One of the side effects of growing up in the 80's, I guess, is diminishing intellectual functioning!

you forgot... wore a white jacket with the sleeves pushed up like sonny crockett.

I graduated High School in '86 so I definitely know all of this stuff - except the Oregon Trail thing...  what is that?   We always wore legwarmers, of course with Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (VERY early 80's), Sassoon, Sergio Valente and Jordache.  Remember when guys wore "jazz" shoes??  In grey or white?  blech!   My 80's included alot of silly "new wave" crap too:  fingerless lace gloves, lace socks with pumps, giant tops with leggings (plus some huge colorful belt of course), loads of plastic "jewelry" oh and the scariest...Bi-level haircuts!   I'm pretty well HORRIFIED thinking back about Michael Jackson.  I was crazy about him already from Off The Wall, but I fell IN LOVE with him when I saw that Billy Jean video!   gross...

I never was fortunate enough to get to play the Oregon Trail game as most of my classmates were fighting over who go to play it next.  Wikipedia has a pretty good description of the game (and screen shots).  [linkhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oregon_Trail_(computer_game]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oregon_Trail_(computer_game[/link])  Basically it was an educational game about traveling the Oregon Trail.

ETA:  What about wearing 2 pairs of layered colored socks, while wearing your jeans tightly folded to show the socks??

oh and mtv used to show actual music videos and had "vj's". now all i ever see on there are stupid reality shows.

this is a little more early ninties, but i miss kennedy and alternative nation. i think mtv2 is now showing headbanger's ball again, but it just cant be the same without riki rachtman.
    • Gold Top Dog
Man!  I remember being able to watch MTV for a minimum of 8 hours and see ONLY videos!  I hate the spoiled brat crap they have on now.  BTW MTV2 does play headbanger's ball.  Unfortunately, it's about 3am when you actually see it. [&o]

I always preferred that show with Frank Black...what was that 120 Minutes I think? that was more my type of music.
And I did watch Remote Control and YO! MTV Raps as well...Dr Dre (the other one) and Ed Lover were funny!

I remember when wine coolers used to come in 2-liter bottles.......California Cooler anyone?

And I actually was watching when MTV played "Video Killed the Radio Star"  for the very first time.

And the first movie I saw on cable TV was "Nine to Five"--and the controller to the cable box was connected by a wire-no remote then.

Oh, and I can remember the words to the "SuperBowl Shuffle"..............Dam, I'm gettin' old....but no signs of Oldtimers' yet!!!!

And I know this is more 90's MTV stuff, but I can't get over Allison Stewart being on MSNBC...just can't take her seriously-and she blinks to much.[sm=biggrin.gif]

i liked 120 minutes too. but didnt it come on late at night? and only once a week?

alternative nation came on 5 nights a week right after beavis and butthead reruns. what a great way to wind down after studying!  [:D]

Wasn't the Oregon Trail one of the first computer learning games?  If I remember correctly I think I had to play that game in school on the green screan computers and it taught us how to count and read.
