It is just tooo cold

Yup.  VERRRRY North Pole like here in the Twin Cities, as chasza pointed out!

Know what is funnier - I flew to the Charlotte area on Wed afternoon for an all day business meeting on Thursday together with 3 colleagues.  We barely stopped in the office on Wed afternoon to meet with others - we were all headed to a Bobcats basketball game with dinner before.  It was cold - a very damp cold.  And the next morning it was snowing and threatening to turn to freezing rain.  We got to the office to be told the decision had been made to shut the site down. We spent the day working in our individual hotel rooms - much of the day I had my car coat on because that damp cold just gets inside you.

And I came back on Friday to this!

And all that cold air seems to be headed this way.  Looks like a "poopsicle" day tomorrow. [:D]

We've been working in shifts for the past 3 hours trying to clear off our front deck.  I finally made the guys come in.  It's more than half done.....DS should have been working on it for the past 3 weeks that he's not been going to work because of the weather, but noooooo, he waits until I get good and mad and then "helps".  DH would not let me go back outside.  Not after he had to help me peel the jeans off that had FROZEN to my legs.  It is snowing like crazy still and as cold as it is, I don't know how that's even possible....seems like it would freeze on it's way down and not land......

All that training on those dogs Glenda and you still can't get them to clear off your porch?  I think you need to start tethering them as you shovel!  [;)]

Well,  I thought about mentioning this earlier, but didn't think northerners would understand.  Even though the south is warmer, it is also "moister".  And that just goes right thru you.  I don't mind walking the dogs in the cold.  I mind the wind and whenever the air is heavy with moisture.  A "wet" feeling of cold is worse than a "dry" cold.  I've never been up north, but whenever I talk to someone who had lived up north, they always say our winters are worse (of course, that's a normal winter).

But, with the temps in the negative temps up north, I wasn't going to say that! [;)]

[:D] Funny you should mention that Ed.  DH said the same thing....they like to dig in the dirt, why can't we teach them to dig the snow?  Of course we are talking about a serious deck here.......and every muscle in my upper body knows how much snow I moved.  Owie.

And I agree.  That southern damp cold goes through you like nothing else.  But, today I *might* welcome a bit of that to warm up!
    • Gold Top Dog
At least we don't have the snow like you do Glenda.  I agree the one thing I thought you could count on is when it is this cold, you don't have to worry about it snowing.

Update for today, it is -11 with a wind chill of -32.  brrrrr[sm=eek.gif]

Yikes!  And I thot -6 with a -18 windchill was bone chilling!  Guess I should quit whining.

DH and I braved the park for Slick yesterday.  We somehow managed 2 hours and were so bundled up, we could barely move.  It was so cold that everything was frozen!  My scarf was eventually frozen solid (from my snot/wet breath breathing through it).  Slicky's slobber was frozen all over his face and the bottle of water I'd brought for him started freezing after just a few minutes.  It's that cold that actually *hurts* if your skin is exposed to the air.  Meanwhile, Slick loved it and didn't want to go home.  I wish we had loads of snow.  If it's going to be bitter cold, at least let it be snowy and beautiful  I grew up in Michigan and I really miss the snow!

    OK, now I feel like a slug.[:o]

The news has had vets for the past several days cautioning against exertion in these temps and I honestly *thot* I was doing the right thing in not taking them out to romp in the woods.  They really do a lot of running and are having to run in some pretty deep snow especially since we've gotten a couple fresh feet since Friday.  And the windchill was 14 below.  I'm not certain they are going to limit themselves and it scares me to be way out in the woods with a dog that might have a sudden issue.  Maybe that comes from the way Mr. Ears went to the Bridge....he seemed perfectly healthy until he came in from the bitter cold.  Guess I'm just over protective now of all of them.

Sorry Glenda, I don't get it.  Why do you feel like a slug if you *didn't* take them out?   Or am I getting it all wrong?
    • Gold Top Dog
Well, maybe cuz YOU bundled up like a snow bunny and went out anyway? [:D]

My crew are all double coated with good thick coats....Sheba's isn't as thick tho.  But that bitter cold air getting into their lungs was one of the things the vets were warning against with heavy exersion.

I feel guilty now for not taking them out at least for a little bit.
    • Gold Top Dog
I wouldn't feel guilty Glenda, especially about not taking them out in the woods.  What if they had and issue, or what if you did?  If you were out there stranded with no help, gosh, I hate to even think it.

This weather won't last forever.  It is always better to be safe than sorry!

It's cold here too... I think -9 with the windchill. Boss and Gracie normally love to play in the snow, but are staying out long enough to do their business and that's it. Have to watch Boss' poor bald belly anyway so I don't let them out much. They're sleeping a lot lately and just staying warm.

Shoveling with slipped discs in my back has not been fun... my physical therapist griped at me about it this morning.. but what can I do, I have no one to do it for me so I do what I gotta do. I just take it a little at a time and come in for breaks when I know I can't take much more.

HAHA!  Puleease!  All normal people stayed inside - only the absolute nutjobs were in the park.  PLUS, It's downright balmy here in NY, it was 17 yesterday!  Granted we had 40mph wind gusts that literally knocked my on my tuckus.  But, you were smart, I was crazy.  I haven't read or heard anything in regard to the cold temps being dangerous if the dog is properly coated/weighted.  If I had, I likely would not have gone.
