Who was it that uses a cooling jacket?

Dante has such a hard time in the heat. Being big and black, he overheats easily. I was wondering if there is something that I can use to cool him off? I remember someone talking about a cooling jacket, but I can't for the life of me remember who. Do they work? Can I get them at a pet store? Or is there anything else that might help him stay cool? We have a camping trip coming up and I really don't want to cancel, but if I can't keep him cool I'm not bringing him and I'm not leaving him here.
    Help!

The person who posted about it got them made by a friend of hers and it used a chamois (like from a car store).  If you do an ebay or google search for cooling jackets you may find some stuff too.  There are all sorts of ones I have seen including ones with cooling crystals, etc.  Outward hound makes a cooling collar I use too.

I was just looking at the collar because they have them at Petsmart! Do they seem to help at all? The largest size they have is 18" - 26", Dante wears a 26" collar on the second to last hole... do you think the 18" - 26" would fit him or would it be snug?
    Thanks for your help!

It would probably be tight on him.

We bought those cooling collars for our boys. During the first walk, Odin stuck his head in some bushes and lost his (we didn't notice til we got home). The other one took days to dry out (they're supposed to dry between uses) and didn't seem to work all that well. I personally wouldn't recommend them.

I think it might be small, but you could buy it and find out or bring your dog to the store to see if it fits.  They are good about taking back returns!

Also, I noticed Sunny's Surplus has bandannas with cooling ice in them for human necks... maybe that would work.  They are only $5.99.  Any outdoors store would probably have them.

I think it helps cool her but I don't think it works amazingly though.  Cooling matts supposedly work well too if your dog will sit on it!

I use a cooling vest made by Silver Eagle you can buy at [linkhttp://www.coolingapparel.com]www.coolingapparel.com[/link] go to animal products...the price ranges between 45.00-85.00 and size for up to a Great Dane, they are a bit expensive, but to me it was well worth the price.

I think I read on a post on here about using old towels and cutting them like horse blankets, wetting them and putting them in the freezer...  I've tried that a couple of times and it has worked with Dodger.
