I'm very scared and worried for my buddy right now, any suggestions or words of advice would be greatly appreciated.
My 2 year old lab woke me up in the middle of the night by continually jumping in bed with us. (he's not allowed in the bed) I figured something was up and turned on the light and we both got out of bed. He paced back and forth between the two of us, panting, and shortly after started randomly revving up and jumping like a dog on a slick floor, or like he had been poked in the rear. His ears were pinned back, and his tail tucked under and he wouldn't sit for more than a few seconds when told to. He was obviously freaked out and jumpy about something. I called the emergency vet as it was the early morning hours and they weren't sure what it could be so we brought him in. He seemed to calm down a bit and act normal on the way out to the car but then started up again in the car with the nervous twich/jump like someone had startled him from behind. Again, when we reached the vet's office he was waggin his tail, sniffing and ready to greet people. Then shortly after we were inside the exam room - again with the pacing and and random jump starts, but he seems like he snaps out of it for a bit when a new person walks in the room. They ran a blood panel, with normal results. They gave him some valium, and checked him over. Normal sounding heart, but a little faster, most likely due to the panting. Normal temp. Red in the ears and whites of the eyes. Possibly an ear infection. They figured since the blood came back normal it's most likely a toxin or some sort or epilepsy.
After the valium - less panting, white returns to ears and eyes, he responded to commands, and back to his usual self. Now he's at the regular vet's all day getting more tests done, such as thyroid, EEG and some others.
Where do I go from here, I'm at a loss and I don't know what to do.
