Be happy! Mine hasnt even tried to wash the dishes in 5 years!

Gosh I think it's been about that long since "I", washed dishes.....I cook he cleans...that's the arrangement.
We have a garbage disposal and a dishwasher so he can't cause too much trouble with the sink, lol. [;)]

I have a kitchen sink that seems to clog up now and then. Now at the start of every season, I take my outside hose, put a high powered nozzle on it and put it down the drain with a dish towel wrapped around it so the water doesn't steep back out. It builds up pressure and pushes all the gunk out of the pipes. I do it to all the drains in the house. Keeps my pipes in working order. My brother was a plumber and he taught me that.

Yes, we have the "I cook he does dishes" arrangement too. But why can't he do it my way - or, I should be honest, like Christine said, the right way? [sm=lol.gif]

Well, I ended up leaving it til morning. I really had no choice, with no car, no tools, nada (I had baking soda but no vinegar!). I did break a paint stirrer in half and shove it down there but there is no obvious obstruction... that's the scary part. I think we need a plumber, and of course our landlords are on vacation, sigh...

I am not a clean freak yet somehow I have germaphobic tendencies. I feel like the whole kitchen is contaminated now from poop-plunger splashback. I still made myself a pot of coffee this morning but as I drink it I am waiting to die of e coli... [sm=rofl.gif]

I'm guessing the obstruction is in the u-bend as well, which probably couldn't be felt from down the drain.  Am glad you left it until morning, though!  And I am sure your coffee is safe.  [:D]

I side with you and Christine here...my way = the right way.  He's getting there, but training him is harder than training Ben.  [;)]

Erin  Mythbusters did a segment on ka-ka bacteria in the bathroom and it's likelihood of getting onto your toothbrush if you keep it on the counter on the toilet side of the bathroom. I believe they ended up ;partially confirming the myth because the kaka bacteria was actually EVERYWHERE in the house, even on the control toothbrushes, as it was airborne and really the concentration wasn't that different outside the potty room, and none of the levels were high enough to pose a threat to health...lmao. I know that helps you with your phobia!

Gina, it's funny you mention that because I keep my toothbrush inside the medicine cabinet! LOL Okay so there's poop all over my house... I feel better now... if you'll excuse me I'm going to take a hot shower.... [sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif][sm=rofl.gif]

With two dogs, two kids, a goldfish and a rabbit that keeps coming into our yard, along with the occasional cat, not to mention having a man in the house, I've finally come to grips with poo. Sometimes literally. But I still try and make them all wash their hands!

Good idea Erin...all you have to worry about in there is killer mold...[sm=eek.gif][sm=rofl.gif] Only teasing you ya know [;)]

Dont your fiance knows that there is something called "garbage can"? when people use the kitchen sink that way they think the food would disappear by magic, the old "if i dont see it is not there"
    • Gold Top Dog
I had the same argument with BF the other day.

Me-We dont have a garburator, so you can't put food down the sink drain.

BF-Ya you can, you just have to poke it a bit with a knife so it fits down through the little holes.

This is because he just puts the dishes with food still on them right into the sink full of water.[:@]  There is nothing I hate more than touching wet food...

Well, here's the update on the sink situation, it's been 24hrs and the sink is STILL CLOGGED. We tried boiling water, tried a sink plunger, tried an aerosol drain blaster, tried Drano, of course now I read that we shouldn't have used Drano because now we have a pipe full of hydrochloric acid that's not going anywhere. The landlords are on vacation. Our one pot and one pan are dirty. And oh yeah the sink reeks.

SO's brother is coming over here with a snake this evening. If that doesn't work we're down to home plumbing work... should be fun... I'm pretty sure we're going to find 2 lbs of coffee grounds sitting comfy in the J-pipe.

This is my biggest struggle with DH.  I can see sh*t coming a mile away and my brain goes into prevention mode.  He won't listen to me because he thinks he's a big boy and doesn't need to be told what to do.  He sees it as "his way" vs. "my way" - I see it as "wrong way" vs. "right way"!  haha  And yes, I've had to clean-up and fix the results of "his way" more times than I care to mention.

EXACTLY! I can soooo relate to all of that!!!

Kind of a dumb question, but do you have the plug in the second sink when you plunge the first one?  I didn't know you had to the first time my double sink backed up, but apparently it has to be blocked for plunging to work.  Optimally two plungers are better so you can do both sides simultaneously.

I've learned that I'll never live anywhere that doesn't have a garbage disposal [:)].

My DH actually thinks the garbage disposal we have doesn't work that well (it does), so he scrapes the food off the plates before they get washed.  I think I've mentioned this before, but he's very much like the guy on Monk, the TV show.  Fortunately, he's much cuter and the cleanliness thing comes in handy most of the time [:)]
