Guess what?

    Guess what?

I think we may actually have a handle on this loose leash walking thing!  We have been working with Sally on the flat collar, keeping her by our leg, and changing directions.  She has been doing well with few distractions, but if we go into public, all bets were off.  Well, I decided to get a harness.  The Sporn harness sucked, but the Easy walk was wonderful.  But do you know the best part about it?  Even at the park, I didn't have to use it to keep her from pulling.  I'm sure it gives me a bit more control than the flat collar, but she was SO good.  She didn't get ahead of me hardly at all, and if she did, I didn't use the harness to correct or pull her back, but instead changed directions on her.  She even seems to have learned to check herself.  In situations where she would normally rush ahead she seemed to temper herself.

She was also much more attentive.  I actually felt like she was walking with me instead of me following her.

I hope we can get to the point where she can walk ahead of me.  I feel kind of bad having her walk next to me the whole time, but right now when she's ahead of me I just about need a air horn to get her attention--lol.

As always, any suggestions on how to help us progress is always appreciated.

I think I'm going to have to start working more with Max on the flat collar.  He uses a prong when we're walking (he's a puller, but getting a lot better) and the only time I start out with the flat collar is if we're on the way to the dog park or the neighborhood dog run. So - every time I snap the leash on the flat collar he *knows* where he's going and gets really excited and by the time we get there, he's like a lunatic on the leash.  If this heat wave ever breaks, I'm going to put that on my *list*. Romeo used to pull really bad, I came across the larz collar and leash [linkhttp://www.larzpetgear.com]www.larzpetgear.com[/link] I bought along with their leash, and oh my god a world of difference, easy to use, and much easier on the animal.  I don't use anymore because with me Romeo is ok, but when my mom walks him, she does because he tries to get away with murder, literally. If Sally can do it, I sure Max can!

    That's awesome. Good work Sally[:)]
It took a while with Bailey, but now he can walk by my side, off leash down the road even past other dogs. Since Bailey and Max are "twins", I'm sure he'll get it soon[&:]
