    Vehicles, Arrrgh

    I'm having a goofy day.

I was going to go meet a rescue that was possibly a buddy for Sofia and me, but it was -36 this morning and the clutch in my truck doesn't work below -25.

So I plugged in the Toyota. Several hours later it started, reluctantly. I was shocked to see that the gas was almost gone. There was half a tank in it when I parked it! So while it was warming up I put another gallon of gas in it so I'd make it into town...

Of course this was after digging it out of loads of snow. I had to do this in shifts, with bunny boots on, (bunny boots are what the Army gives you for arctic conditions--keeps you feet warm to -70, but you look like you have Bugs Bunny feet when you wear them). My hands would get too cold so it took me three warmups to get it all done.

So, snow and gas problem solved, I fought more snow to drive it out, stopped at the end of the driveway to do an inspection and guess what? Flat tire! AND....a nice trail of gas all the way down the driveway. Just drips, but still...

I'm not all mad, but it IS frustrating! However I called all my students and most of them are going to come out to my house for their lessons today! One declined, and three (three kids in one family) I couldn't get a hold of soon enough.

Guess I'll go make another cup of tea, eh?[8D]

I think you should get back into bed, cover yourself completly with the sheets and wait till tomorrow to get out of the house, thats what i call bad luck  [;)]

Well, one of my families just called and said, "We have car problems, too!" So they won't be coming over for lessons. Then we talked about dogs for 20 minutes. [:D]

I don't think I'm going back to bed. The house is nice and toasty warm, no matter how cold it is outside. My Toyo heater does a GREAT job, thank doG!

I've never experienced temps like that ... thankfully.

About two years ago, I think, it was six degrees outside.  I was at a friend's house, and my car started without a problem.  Last year I had bought gas at a "Hole-in-the-Wall" joint, because it was there and I was too lazy to go to BP or Shell.  Huge mistake, because the damn gas froze and the temperature was only in the 20s.  I've only bought gas from a mainstream gas station since then.  Lesson learned -- do not buy cheap gas.  Sorry about going OT ... Sorry to hear about your car troubles but to make you feel better, I don't know if you heard, but Albuquerque got 2 feet of snow a few weeks ago!  You can imagin the mess we had down here, so many cars turned over at the side of the roads.  The snow hasn't melted in two weeks!  Something we were never prepaired for, not to mention New Mexicans don't know the first thing about driving in the snow.[:)]

Holy cow!  I will stop complaining about Chicago's "mildest winter in 75 years"!!!!

Glad you're able to stay safe and warm, even if you are unable to drive anywhere for the time being!

Xebby, yep, my son in ABQ told me he had to shovel out their driveway! At least Sofia's sister got to have some snow!

When I lived there and it snowed or got icy, we'd just sit on the porch and watch everyone crashing.

Just like a Destruction Derby! Great entertainment! [sm=rotfl.gif]

No doubt, with hot chocolate, popcorn, blankets. That would be funny. I know it may seem wrong to say that but a comedy of errors can often be right out the front door, n'est pas?

Ha, people in NC suffer from the same[:D]

When I first moved here I couldn't believe how a few flakes of snow could shut down everything.

No one here can drive in snow, either.  We had an inch or two of snow yesterday in the area, and some school systems shut down.  Even a wimpy snow is painful for people here.  My parents taught me how to drive in snow, but I don't do it unless I have no choice.  I can do it, but I don't want to be plowed over by the idiot who slams his or her brakes while hitting ice.

SNOW...what is that???? In Southern California no one can even drive in a tiny bit or rain... it happens so infrequent that people forget that they might actually not want to drive 90 mph on the freeway at that moment...   [8|]
