Reading the blogs of people you don't know is perfectly normal. Many blogs are out there just for that purpose (and you can easily tell the ones that aren't because they're hideously boring unless you're a friend or relation of the blogger!). I don't read any dog blogs currently, but I follow about 100 blogs of other types (knitting, fandom, feminism, Canada, random things).
Do you use a blogreader? A service like [link
http://www.bloglines.com]Bloglines[/link] makes it easy to follow blogs without having to check them individually, and it's easy to set up. I think Google has a blogreader, too, and there are a million others, I'm sure. With a service like that, instead of checking that blog every day to see if it's been updated, your blogreader will tell you when that happens.
Now I'm curious about dog blogs. Hmmm ....
