    New York City travel

Alright - I have a friend visiting from Arizona who's going to a party in NYC (Upper Eastside) in two weeks.  We're thinking of driving to CT, parking near one of the closest train stations and taking the train into the city.  Any suggestions on which train stations in CT are safe to leave your car at?

Don't know, but I wouldn't leave anything unattended in Bridgeport, Waterbury, or Stamford.   Maybe West Norwalk?  Dunno.

I used to live in New Haven and Milford -- my favorite train station to leave a car is Stratford.  When I go home to CT for a visit, I usually include a trip to NYC to see another friend, and that's where I leave my car.  The Milford train station is nice, too.  The good thing about those two towns is the Metro North train is direct to Grand Central (that is, you don't have to change trains anywhere).  From Stratford, you can be at Grand Central in an hour or so.  If you want to be closer to NYC when you pick up the train, I'd pick one of the more affluent towns, like Fairfield, Westport, Darien, Rowayton.

I'm very jealous you live close enough to make some last minute plans like these -- have a great time!

My DH spent quite some time in CT this year and learned all about Metro North; since they go directly to Grand Central.  He said that the New Haven, CT station has a police station right across from it with police cars parked on every deck of the parking garage.  But, it is the farthest station from NYC, about 1H 45min ride.
Stamford is the closest stop to NYC.
