    Should I report this?

I have been having some issues with my manager and one of the assistant managers.  With my manager, she is just stupid!  Today, she made one of the girls separate the rabbit cage with glass dividers and put ferrets on the other side.  The baby bunny is terrified of the giant predetors on the other side of the glass.  She checked in some guinea pigs from the supplier today.  At least one has mites, and if one does, they probably all do.  One has a leg that it cannot use and its probably either broken or dislocated.  I called her tonight to tell her and she was doped up.  So, I left her a note because she probably won't remember it in the morning.
My assistant manager should have been fired long ago.  He got arrested, it was for something small(bad check i think) but still...arrested is arrested.  He missed an entire week or more of work because of that.  He has made perverted comments when it was just me, him, and another guy.  Very uncomfortable.  Hes made very rude, degrading comments in front of customers.  We had a fight about that and got it settled.  Today, he came to work hung over.  He was really out of it and told me he was hung over.  Then, twice, he went out to his car to get Vicodin, those are just the two times he told me.  Then, he was outside talking to a friend and two of us needed a manager(he was the only one on duty).  He is also supposed to stay at work during his break if hes the only MOD, but he left.  We just got lucky that no one needed a manager.  There is a hotline that I can call to report stuff that I am not comfortable with.  I just don't know if I should call or not.  Any ideas?

if you are uncomfortable then i would call, thats what the number is for. they probably arent going to change so it sounds like it is a situation where you will either have to live with it, or do something.

How the hell were these idiots hired on as managers?  From what you've said, I'm surprised the place hasn't caved in from the massive levels of idiocy.  It's a new Petco, right?  With such poor management, I don't see how it has functioned this long.

If I were you, I'd do something to get it settled.  That hotline is there for a reason, and I think you should take advantage of the opportunity.  Eventually, if things progress, you may find yourself in the crosshairs because of these morons and their pitiful management.   It's better to cover your own butt, rather than wait and have it on the line.  Keep us updated about the situation ...

ETA: Since when is "m-oron" a bad word?  LOL!  Idiot and hell weren't bleeped.

lol...moron...i just wanted to see if it would get bleeped.  Thats what they are though.  There may also be something going on with the two regarding the Vicodin, so that may be why he was allowed to come back.  I won't say anything at all to him any more because hes said he likes to say things to see who tells who.  Basically, he likes to spread rumors.  I have the most experience of anyone there with animals due to my animal science classes.  But, instead of having me help with customers, she has dumb @$$ ;people working on the floor giving people wrong advice.  I'm so sick of it!  I don't mind being on register at all, but its not fair to be on it every single day when I could be much more useful elsewhere in the store.  AHHH!!!  I'm really starting to hate my job.

    ETA:  Yep, m-oron got bleeped.

are you saying you work with a bunch of opioid-addicts? if so i am really sorry for you, and the poor creatures being neglected by them. i have had close personal experience (no it wasnt me) with opioid/opiate addicts and they are not the one. i have complete understanding for them and their problem, but i really don't think they sohuld be dealing with living creatures. definitly report them.

I've been around addicts all of my life.  Well, most of them are recovering addicts, but still.  I work with one guy, who I love working with, who has been clean for a few years and he really hates the situation as well.  But, we are afraid that if we call, something will happen to us.  I think the reason it bothers me so much is that I have seen the destruction of things like Vicodin and it just gets worse.  I don't really like to be around it at all.  Especially when it affects things like work.

Colleen...if you call...and I think your definitely should. Be SURE you get the name of the person you are talking with....first and last if possible...that way you can follow up and have your facts. [;)

If ANYONE craps on you because of it, or you are affected at work in ANY WAY....get a lawyer and turn it over to them...trust me, you will be set for life and should be HOPING they fire you or discipline you for complaining about sexual harrassment AND drug use on the job. Document, document, document!

If I saw drug activity, or noticed a person get in his car to drive home while impaired or in possession of illegal substances (hint), I'd forget about the management and just call the cops [;)].

I would report it.  If you are uncomfortable, or feel unsafe at work, that is a reason to report the situation.  If there is possible drug activity, that's yet another reason to report the goings on, if only to have it on record-so that you are not accused as well.  Put everything in writing, dates, times, places, situations.  Nobody at your job is going to protect you except for you.

i just wanted to add, even if you don't report them for your own personal reasons, do it for the animals. they cannot take care of themselves and they certainly cannot call and complain, you have a moral obligation to do what you can to protect them. from what i have read in your posts here i know you are a good responsible person, and will do what is right. it really stinks you are put in that position, but im guessing you will feel alot better if you do something about it.

In addition to all the excellent points already made, as a customer  I think, speaking as a customer, that you should report it. What if my kids and I go in there, and that stoned manager interacts with my girls?

I'm really afraid that someone will try to fire me for it.  I am on the good side of the district manager, so it really wouldn't be a big problem.  Plus, its illegal to fire me for that.  The hotline is just an answering machine I think.  So, I might call as a "concerned customer" and report the rabbit with the ferrets(glass divider).  The rabbit gets completely freaked out as soon as the ferrets move.  Then say something about how the manager has been rude to customers, true.  And how I have heard one of the managers talking about being hungover and taking Vicodin.  All of that could have easily been seen by a customer since he was at the register talking about it.  Then, it will be investigated, but I won't be involved.

you could lie. or you could complain in person to a boss above them about the negligent care of the animals, mention the drug use on the job, and the inappropriate comments. as gina said, they cannot legally fire you for that.

Ok, ok....I know....I just need to do it and get it over with.  I'm going to talk to my manager tomorrow more about my concerns about the rabbit.  Give her a chance.  Others have talked to her, but I haven't had a chance yet.  Our local ferret rescue came in today and we had a very long talk about it.  They said I could have her call them if she won't listen to me.  They also gave me some good starting points for the conversation.  If she won't correct the problem then, I will call.  No doubt.  I will call about the assistant manager without a doubt though.
