    NEED Gift Ideas

I'm needing a gift idea for my father.  I know it's late, but it's been a TOUGH month and Christmas gifts are the last thing on my mind. [:(]  I'm racking my brain trying to think of something for him besides a gift card.  For the past few years I've been getting him different Nascar's Rusty Wallace items (clock, pillow, diecast itesms, etc.).  I don't want to get him that this year, but I don't know what to get.

He's been getting into smoking meat lately, but I don't know what he has or what would go good with it.  I can't afford much more than $25.  My brother might be able to go in with me for $25 more, but I have to run it past him 1st.  He lives in Nebraska so he can get some good meat there.

Any suggestions would be helpful.  Also, thanks in advance!

hmmm, one year i made a photo-collage of family pictures for my mother. i had a color printer and photpaper at home already and only needed to buy a frame. it was one of the cheapest gifts ever, and the ony one my mother ever really liked (she is WAYYYY picky!!!)..
i dunno about your prices over there for anything... just a suggestion...

That would be a neat idea, but most of the family pictures are in Nebraska and I'm in Georgia.  On top of that, I think that would be a hard on me mentally (Mom just passed away on Nov 29).

i am so sorry! that must be hard on you!
in that case, i am out of suggestions, though..

    Try popcornfactory.com

They have gifts around $20 that could possibly be delivered before christmas.

Or, is there a restaurant around his house that he likes to go to?  We always get my Dad gift certificates for restaurants.  He loves em.

a gift basket, containing  [linkhttp://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=1201710]a book with recipes for smoking[/link], an assortment of merinades and cooking liquids, seasonings, maybe some utensils. i love gift baskets, once you choose a theme it is easy to find things to fill it up, and if you keep the items fairly small you can fill it right up and stay within budget. i like to start at the dollar store, the basket need'nt be fancy, so it can be purchased there, as well as many other items.

How about a collection of rubs and marinades for meat...even if he already has some, he could probably use more.  One year my daughter got a cute set for DH from Pier 1.

Dad has PLENTY of popcorn (Mom had a large stash at work).  He also lives in a very rural area.  The town only has about 550 ;people, so not many places to eat at.

He's been getting into the smoking meat lately (and just cooking in general) so I was trying to think of something along those lines.  But since I know nothing about smoking, I don't know what things he needs or what marinades/spices would work.

How about just a really good cookbook on this topic.  I know the shipping of things can be expensive (assuming that you have to ship it).  But he might really appreciate this and especially if you don't already know what tools, spices, etc. he has, he could alwasy use another cookbook even if he already has one! [:D]

I know how tough this can be...my dad and step mom live in Maui and I struggle with what to get them every birthday and christmas...this year I did Outback steak house gift certificates...

I have a friend that works at Books-A-Million so I might be able to bypass the shipping charges (and maybe even get a discount) by checking out what they have.  [;)]

Has anyone heard of these places?  [linkhttp://www.honestfoods.com/]http://www.honestfoods.com/[/link] or [linkhttp://www.turkeyhuntinggateway.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=129&cat=Seasonings%2C+Mixes%2C+Rubs+%26+Marinades]http://www.turkeyhuntinggateway.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=129&cat=Seasonings%2C+Mixes%2C+Rubs+%26+Marinades[/link]

One year my dad got one of those cheese/meat samplers. We kind of joked about it, but he loved it! He really liked sampling all the different types of cheeses and sausages and it was never so much that if he didn't like it, he felt like he was wasting something if he didn't eat it.  I think it was from Swiss Colony, but I don't know if they're still in business anymore, but Hickory Farms should have something. Here's a link to their under $25 section:

    edited to add link

I like Gayles' gift basket idea. [:)] I've seen Christmas cellophane wrap for $1 a roll and if there isn't a $store near you, Michaels usually has great baskets at really reasonable prices.

Swiss Colony is definitely in business - yummy desserts too. Any hunting supply place will carry the smoking marinade gift sets this time of year - try any large big box sports stores, or Cabela's (you'd have to ship overnight, yikes!). Northern Tool has some stuff too. You're in GA so you might be able to find something at a Southern States or a Tractor Supply Company reasonably locally (call around). Most people who are into smoking like anything new, exotic, or a variety of stuff - the gift sets usually offer a nice selection of rubs, seasonings, marinades, injections, etc.

    Edited for spelling - Cabela's, not Cabella's [8|]

My sister lives by herself on the complete opposite side of the country. Last year, my mom sent her a Christmas meal package. She ordered it online and they gave her a choice of meats and sides, etc.  Made it special to have dinner by herself. Not sure if your dad will be alone, but I loved the idea.
I don't know which one she used, but this place has a TON of stuff, including "Dinner For Dad": [linkhttp://www.gourmetgroceryonline.com/inc/sdetail/36312]http://www.gourmetgroceryonline.com/inc/sdetail/36312[/link] so he could pick out his own choices if you're not sure which he would want.
Or one of these Gourmet Meals- on some the prices range by the # of servings..http://www.gourmetgroceryonline.com/gourmet_meals
