    Vacuum help

Can anyone recommend a good vacuum cleaner? I vacuumed my living room on Saturday and just happened to notice that it didn't pick up any dog hair. NONE. I certainly can't afford a Dyson, that's for sure.

We may have discussed this before but I was just wondering what you guys use...Aside from shaving all the hair off our lil furbabies. [sm=devil.gif] Just kidding. I would never do that. [:D]

    Any advice would be appreciated.

This is the one I got.  I LOVE it!  It works on both carpet and hard surfaces and the switch to change it is right at your fingertips.  It has this deep clean function that gets carpet REALLY clean, like cleaner than I have ever seen!  I got it right after I moved and I took it to my old ;place when I was cleaning it and the carpet actually had a pattern sewn into it that I had never seen until I used the deep clean function on it and it picked up more cat hair than I could even fathom being in the carpet.  I think it was about $150 and you can get it at a lot of places.  It is a little heavy, but on hard surfaces it is easy to push and on carpet it almost propels iteself so the weight really isn't an issue.  I also like it b/c it hasn't clogged on me and I always have a full canister of hair everytime I vacuum with 2 dogs and 2 cats!

We bought this one a few months ago and I really like the handtool for picking up pet hair.  It also is not expensive (about $100 and we got it on sale for $85)

I have the same lime green Hoover like JJsmom posted. It's great at picking up cat/dog hair, it always amazes me how much it gets!

You might also check out garage sales.  Some years back, I bought a practically new Kirby for $50.  It belonged to an older lady and it was too heavy for her to carry upstairs.

When I was away for months last year taking care of an ill parent, our vacuum died.  So DH went shopping for a nw one and purchased the Hoover Windtunnel.  It comes with all the attachments, uses bags as DH didn't want dust blown in his face emptying the canister, and it has a clean/dirty indicator light.
I love that indicator, I thought the carpet was clean, but the red light is still on, so I make a few more passes until the green light came on.  I think I pick up a lot more hair and dirt that way, it senses what I can't see.  Also, I like having the hose attachments on board, don't ahve to deal with separate parts, etc.  It's average weight, but self propelled and quite comfortabel to manuever.  Now for price, I think it was around $350, but DH purchased it at Sears with a maintenance contract.  Good thing too because they already serviced it which would have cost $78 otherwise.
Years ago I had a Kirby and was glad to get rid of it.  I found it too heavy to manuever, even though it was self propelled.  That may be because of my bad arm, but still I didn't care for it.  I hated having to vacuum with the upright, then remove the front brush attachment, attach the hose and go back around my house, again, to vacuum the cracks and crevices.  Waste of time!  But, that's just my opinion, to all of you who like your Kirby - kudos. Maybe the pawn shop, you might be able to find a Dyson or an equally good vac there.[;)]

Check out craigslist too.  That's where I'm going to look for a steam cleaner.  Although I'd really like to start looking for hardwood floors and throw rugs.  (my dream)

I got my Dyson Animal used.  I paid $200 for it.

I have a Kenmore Progressive canister and I am happy with it.  I didn't like the uprights anymore since they can't get under anything.  The canister is much easier to get under all the furniture, etc......

Kato's hair is easily swept up because his bed is on a tiled floor.  I use a broom or the vac with attachment.

The Dyson Animal.  Besides  being a great vacuum for everything, it was specially designed to pick up pet hair ... and it does. A little pricey, but worth every penny.  They've been out long enough  now so that you can maybe pick  up a used one.

The wal mart knock off for a Dyson. The Hoover Fusion....LOVE it!!! It's only around 100 maybe 120. I've had it for 2 years now and it's still going just as strong as day 1. I didn't want to spend the 5 or 600 on a Dyson and I saw this so I thought what the heck I'd give it a try and I haven't regretted it.
