Our mail carrier takes biscuits on her route and gives them to any dogs she meets. My dogs love her!

Wow - I'm feeling like a space cadet - I remember you applying and getting the job and that it was a gov job, but did not know it was a mail carrier position.  I've had friends who have really loved the job - the being outdoors, the physicality, the public service aspect!  Cool - I'm glad you are digging it!

I don't know too many people who can say they look forward to going to work each day.  I'm not one of them, that's for sure!  Good for you that you've found such a job!

When we used to do pet visitation with Tonka at the hospital, we met a patient who we immediately found to be charming and engaging.  He was obviously elderly, but when his daughter asked us to guess his age, we were shocked to learn he was 93!  He had the firmest handshake I'd received in years.  When I asked what his secret was, he said "I was a mail carrier for over 40 years, and I walked miles a day."

So you've got a job that you like, that rewards you with good pay and benefits, and is good for your health, too!

That is so great about your job.  Charlie absolutely loves our mail carrier.  We waits by the window everyday for him.  Then we have to take him out to see him or he will literally sulk for a good 1/2 hour.  It is so cute!

i jus hope the next month goes by as smoothly as the last two..

the only drawback is less time here...i dont get to check in everyday like before once my home and dog duties are done,,,

Good for you!!!  I am so glad that you are liking your new job.[:D]  That is so important and something that very few of us can say!

And we're holding you fully responsible for that.[;)] J/K

Congrats. You won't get rich but you'll have bene's forever. Most importantly, you enjoy it and that makes it seem more like play than work.

    my day today:

Was told to come in to help deliver 2 diferent routes..I took about an hour off each one...one of the routes i have never delivered before..

So i am told to use my personal vehicle to deliver..I was given a 91 ontiac grand am last march and have been driving it ever since..i have 200 buck in it total,so its paid for itself well over..lol

anyway, about an hour in,i hit a sharp curb and immediately rip out the sidewall..lol...i go for the spare, and it turns out my wife is hiding presentsin there..it is packed....so i have to dig to get to my spare...

I finally get the spare out,the car jacked, the flatty off,and the spare is actually the wrong size bolt pattern for the car..lol

Of course i dont have a cell phone on me,but luck was with me when a coworker went by,and i called my boss...had to use a supervisors vehicle the rest of the day..lol

turns out i must have hit pretty hard.I lost all my oil on the way home(dont know how for sure,i didnt jump the curb)and think i may have screwed the engine up good...lol

I got withing 3 miles of home, and the car died, coasted riht into the driveway..lol

My mom has a bench on her front porch for their mail carrier to come take his break.  She leaves him a drink and a snack everyday and he sits and relaxes on her porch!  He's a really sweet, young guy and is friendly to everyone.  She feels it's the least she can do "since he has to walk so much"![sm=lol.gif]

Well either you had time for a cold one before you typed all that or you've got a better sense of humor than I do.  That sounded like one rough day.  Glad you made it home safely, even if the car didn't [:)]

Well Cakana,i am triing to look on the bright side..The weather is in the 50's in upstate NY in mid December,I could have blown out a tire while driving fast(they were pretty old)...the car has served me faithfully for almost a year and i have less than 200 dollrs into it...Who knows,i could have not broken it,and then broken down a month from now in below zero weather..lol

No cold ones...just taking lfe one day at a time...[:)]

My ex-boyfriend that I dated right before my husband was a mail carrier.  I helped him study for the test.

He also loved the job and once he got into shape he was very good at it.  He was a dog lover and would bring dog treats like others have mentioned.

I remember his Christmas tips---a lot of people would sign them from the dog and thank him for the cookies.

I'm glad you also are liking it.

MhadDog, I've got a postal gift etiquette question for you  . . . I wanted to give our carrier our goodies gift in person, and she's usually regular as clockwork, but with the holidays it seems her route isn't regular right now (go figure, right!) and she only comes up to the porch if there's a package. So, would it be a faux pas (or a federal crime!) to put it in the mailbox?
