Ticks in December...??

Well this is a first for me...I found a deer tick crawling across my bed last night! In the middle of December! I'd heard of them in October, maybe even November...but not in December when there's supposed to be 2 feet of snow on the ground. I've been out walking the dogs wearing only a sweatshirt....and this is New England. Man, I hate global warming....silly human race better figure out somethin' fast cause I miss white Christmasses [

And if the ticks have been on an animal that's warmblooded they can stay active. *sigh* it sucks -- I agree

That's why I keep the frontline on all year long I cut it in half for the winter, but like you said Mikaela, this isn't winter. We are loaded w/ them, and the thing is that even w/ the frontline if they get off of the dogs w/o dying and jump onto us.....we have Lyme's disease.

This whether completely sucks. Last year the dogs went without frontline and heartworm pills for the winter, because there actually was one, and I was planning to do the same this year. I used to get email reminders for it, and I just realized the other day that it was past due, and I must have set up my emails only to come April-December, assuming there would be a winter this year. I'm lucky I realized it only a few days late though, but now i'll have to go back to the vet to get more.

But seriously...I just pulled another itty bitty deer tick off Cairo's neck today - heck I don't even know how I found the thing, considering they're that small and he's a black dog...but ugh. I didn't think we'd need to Frontline the dogs over winter, but I think I'll put some on him tonight [&:]
