I have lost all respect for my MIL

What#%92s going on is my husband#%92s plant that he works at is laying off workers and letting some go without pay an little to no unemployment.  Instead of my MIL being supportive she suggests to me to sell all my dogs.   Of cause I tell her flat out “no they are not going anywhere” She then goes on the say how are you going to feed them and so on and on.  I reply with a nice comment If things get that bad they will eat the same thing we eat  I go on to tell her you don#%92t get read of a family member when things get tough.   Which I know in her judgmental way she thinks she was being a little supportive.    My Mil is the type that can be your best friend one minute and then next stab you in the back.   Our dogs are family members they have been with us though the hard times and good why can#%92t she see that.  What I don#%92t get is why tell someone that when they#%92re all ready stressed to the max?  I do feel a little better letting it all out  Thanks ever one for letting me vent.

Sadly, I think many members of my family and DHs would say something just like this and have come really close.  Frankly, I don't understand what they expect.  Do they not realize how much we love our animals?  Do they think we're going to say "you know, that's a good idea".  Grrrrrr....anyway, sorry you're going thru a rough time.  We've been thru the same financial struggle in the last couple years and I know how stressful it can be.  Sometimes having your pets is one of the few bright spots in an otherwise gloomy time.

Since this Christmas is turning out to be pretty sucky for me personally, my alter ego, Catty Woman is making an appearance. So she says "Tell the MIL you'll eat the dogs if things get tough." Should be a smart-mouth enough response to shut her up.

Your right at times our pets are the only few bright spots in a gloomy time.   The best thing about ownering pets is the unconditional love they give, they never judge us.  All they ask in return is a good home someone to love them and a good belly rub once in awhile.

Saveastray2day I will have to use the eat the dogs reponse.  The 52 pound Gizmo could feed us for a couple weeks lol

Most local shelters will help someone out with dog food if they are not too proud to ask.  My Dancer ate Rice Krispies more than once when her first family couldn't afford dog food.  There's always some job for someone who wants to work.  Unemployment may not be much, but it will feed you - any other bills can wait.  And, you can save money by NOT inviting your MIL over to eat!!!

Seriously, I hope things get better for you in a hurry.

We're keeping our fingers crossed the number of lay offs are low and not plant wide. I have talked with my parents they have agreeded to take Gizmo and Sky in if things get to tough.  We should know in the next day or two the results of weather or not my husband along with others still have a job.  With the job history the both of us have it won't be to hard to find another job around here.  What all else fails I'll flip hamburgers at burger king

    Or, have MIL for dinner.

Shades of the movie, "Fried Green Tomatos."

"That's the best barbecue I ever tasted."

    "The secret's in the sauce."

I was only joking. I don't support cannibalism. MIL may think she's helping but the words are hurting.

I think some just don't understand the depth of love between people and their dogs. They're more deserving of our pity than our anger, really. The "it's just a dog" group will never get it. It's not that they're trying to be hurtful - on the contrary, they think they're offering helpful suggestions .... but they JUST DON'T GET IT.

Angie, my thoughts are with you & DH.  Why do they always seem to do big layoffs around the holiday season?  That just plain stinks.

FWIW, if things get bad for you & DH, I'd be glad to take care of one of your female doggies until you're up on your feet.  Please keep that in mind.  The boys would love to have a girl here to play with.  [:)]
