• glenmar Posted : 2/26/2007 7:10:57 PM Awwwww, Shelly, your just brought tears to MY eyes!   Gosh, with the family, you do what you have to do to get through stuff.  It's the old "sh*t happens, deal with it and try to keep laughing while you clean it out from between your toes!" thing.......   And I ENJOY the old folks.  I LIKE to see them smile and having the boredom of the weekend broken.  It isn't a selfless act....I get back FAR more than I give.  And I felt like a total heel between the kidney cyst and the weather that I didn't go yesterday.  I learned today that I had been MISSED by many of the residents....that made me feel even worse for not going. I think I missed my calling....should have been in some sort of social work instead of sales........   I believe you did Glenda... But the good news is that I am sure the nursing facility would ALWAYS GLADLY accept a weekend volunteer to help our with a group activity 1 time a week![]    Also if you want to know more about this profession or about specific activities you might be able to do with Residents with a variety of disabilities then let me know. As I think I mentioned before I worked in a nursing home prior to working in a inpatient hospital setting and that included work on an Alzheimer#%92s unit so I might be able to give you some suggestions should you need any.   Again, you should feel VERY proud of yourself for all that you are doing on so many different fronts and for so many people in your life![]     0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available.
