Anyone with camera recommendations??

    Anyone with camera recommendations??

DH has wanted to get me a new digital camera for the past 2 Christmas#%92, but I have always told him not to waste the money since I rarely take pictures. Well…now that we have dogs again I am a picture taking fool. [8D]

He really wants to get me one this year and I agreed but told him he could NOT spend more than $350 on a new camera (he tends to be a little TOO generous around the holidays).  He and I are both clueless about digital cameras so he said “will you ask your dog forum friends for some suggestions on camera#%92s that take pretty good dog photos?”

SO how about it folks…any recommendations for cameras that have a decent amount of zoom, not too long of a “delay” in the picture taking that are also under $350???   (or am I asking for too much in that price range??)

DH say#%92s  “thanks for the help!” [:D]

the kodak easyshare cameras are pretty good for the money. we have one, and the only thing i dont like is that the batteries dont last long.

i really like the smallness of some of the canon "point and shoot" models, but i have never used one.

try a few out in the store. i think the main thing i would look for is zoom capabilities and lag time. lag time being ... i press the button and it takes "x" amount of time to take the pic. my parents have a fuji, and it takes a bit for it to take a pic and many of the pictures turn out blurry.

oh, and if you get an easyshare, do yourself a favor and dont install the software that comes with it. windows should recognize the camera without installing that infernal software.

edit: i think this is the updated version of the camera we have...

we have had ours for a couple of years now, so the megapixels on ours are less than this one, but the other features look the same.

With $350 you can find a good camera, you should stick with that budget

yes! I like my Kodak, it's a cute little thing. Besides dog pictures, I've gotten lots of good Costa Rica pictures and some good ones from the FL keys too. But UGH, that stupid software....

Bradley- what easy share do you have?  I have one I was given as an "extra" that someone had and it is on the lower end of the scale and while the pictures aren't bad, the delay is horrible, you are right...it eats batteries and I hate that it goes to "sleep" so quickly.  I have seen several other easy share ones that are more expensive than my model...wondering which one you have since it sounds like it is much better than my model?

also, we take pics with the screen off. i think that helps the delay as well.

edit: this is the exact camera we have...

LOOOVE my new Canon S2 IS.  12X OPTICAL zoom and crystal clear pics.  Point and shoot or you can play with it.  You can buy other lenses, too, if you like. :)

I just looked up this camera...is it really $500 or am I looking at the wrong one?

The one I found looks like a cool camera...just not in the budget I am making DH stick too!

I'm an HP gal. I like all my gadgets to speak easily with one another and my puter, printer and such are HP. I've always had a Photosmart of some kind. Currently I have the uber tiny and cute R727...I'd recommend it. the all important software is easy to work with and works well. I cannot abide something that takes nice pictures but has lame software! HP is a puter co. first so they know how to make things easy and work well lol!

As to quality of the pics you can see what it does in the pics I've posted here. It's definitely a nice litle camera and IF I was patient enough to learn how to use the myriad white balance and flash and exposure setting lmao...I am sure I could take even better ones! [;)]

I have the Kodak EasyShare CX7530
We bought it with the printing station, don't bother if you have a good printer.
Batteries don't last too long, we use rechargable....
All in all I like the camera quiet a bit.[;)]

The S2 IS should be less.  The S3 IS is $500.

Here it is at Amazon.com for under $300:

Oh, and I never use the software that comes with the Camera.  I use PaintShop Pro and do everything there.  I just use a flash card reader, save the photos to a file on my computer, open up the images in PaintShopPro and off I go.  :)

I'm a die-hard Canon fan.  I have a Rebel (which is an SLR, probably not what you are looking for), but am going to be getting the PowerShot 550 as my point and shoot (even though I already have an Olympus.)  Lots of megapixels (7.1) to blow up any shots you really like.

Honestly though, unless you want to blow up your pictures past an 8x10 you won't need more than 4 or 5 mp's.

Here are some options for Canon's over 4 mps -  [linkhttp://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=search&Q=&b=8&a=706_6213&a=706_6214&a=706_6215&a=706_6373&a=706_6374&a=706_6375&mnp=0.0&mxp=0.0&cmpsrch=&cltp=&clsgr=&shs=&ci=8612&ac=&Submit.x=16&Submit.y=7]http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=search&Q=&b=8&a=706_6213&a=706_6214&a=706_6215&a=706_6373&a=706_6374&a=706_6375&mnp=0.0&mxp=0.0&cmpsrch=&cltp=&clsgr=&shs=&ci=8612&ac=&Submit.x=16&Submit.y=7[/link]

I'd make sure that whichever camera you pick has rechargeable batteries, larger LCD (AND a viewer, if your LCD screen breaks you won't be able to see what you're clicking, otherwise.  They are selling cameras without a viewer now and it makes me shake my head.) I'd look to make sure it has a timer and is pretty intuitive.  I'ms sure
you want to pull your camera out of the box and use it without spending years figuring out all the features.

Again, I *LOVE* Canon.  Big fan of it.. and recommend it whole heartedly.

    Have fun!
