I don't usually get too scared from my dreams, mainly because I'm just used to them by now. I would say about half the dreams I remember are nightmares and a large percentage of those involve my own death or a death of someone I'm close to, often an animal. I have had countless dreams involving the death of my rats...usually I'm pretty shaken when I wake up and the uneasy feeling will stay with me throughout the day.
I had one interesting dream that involved me and a one-legged pirate playing "pirate" (like little kids do with fake swords n things) around my house, when all of a sudden his weapons turned real and he started trying to kill me. I started panicking and screaming at him to stop and that I didn't want to play anymore, and he just wouldn't let up. He was chasing me around and all of a sudden I just stopped, turned around, and we started running straight for each other....I leapt at him and the instant before we collided we suddenly became pitbulls and locked together in a massive dogfight. It was really pretty graphic, and well, to say the least it ended with us having ripped each others' throats out and lying bloody and dead on the floor. The last thing I remember from that dream is a far away shot of my driveway ("shot" with the "camera" a ways down the street looking back at my driveway)...it was an eerie night scene illuminated by one yellow street light showing my mom dragging our dead canine bodies out to the street next to our trash cans.
I had one dream where my house was invaded with these bizaarre zombie people who were just sort of loafing around that I needed to kill, and the only way to do that was by cutting them up with a saw because they never really "died". So I remember being in my parents' room and there were these weird zombies everywhere all of a sudden Cairo was there, but it wasn't
actually Cairo, it was a zombie taking the form of Cairo in an effort to fool me...so all of a sudden I have this graphic scene of my trying to saw off Cairo's head with a hack saw while he's sitting there giving me the sad puppy eyes. I remember that dream was one that really bugged me the whole day after...
I've had numerous rat nightmares that involve awful, disturbing deaths of my rats and other rats I've never seen before. For some reason rats are the most common animal to come to harm in my dreams, I think because they're so short-lived, so the prospect of them dying is much more frequent than when owning another animal. I had one dream I totally forgot when I woke up until I looked at my rat cage and saw my white rats...I got an instant flashback image of a dead bloody white rat that had been eaten from the inside in my head. I've had dreams where I suddenly find myself in a room of cages filled with rats - all moms and babies, and they're all dying and I'm running from cage to cage trying to grab them and save them, but they're all dying one by one and I can't do anything to save them.
One night one of my heart rats started dying...just "running out of batteries" almost is what it seemed like, so I stayed up with her as late as I could (I was young and it was a school night), but I put her in a box on my pillow next to my head and stroked her until I finally fell asleep. I dreamed that night of seeing my door being slowly pushed open and an undead, gory version of my rat slowly dragging herself into my room towards my bed. I woke up in the morning and she was dead in the box...needless to say I cried a LOT that day....
One of my more recent and immensley interesting dreams didn't even include me at all. The night before the dream I had been talking to my rat breeder friend about a rat from her lines that had fallen into the wrong hands and was being abused, and we were both upset about this. That night I had the following dream (lets see if I can remember this all the way). The beginning's a little vague, but it consists of a man being chased by some dark, scary figure (I think it's a man but it's all shadowy and hard to see) in an old train station. They're running all over the place, this one guy trying to kill the other, when all of a sudden they stumble outside into the night and find themselves amongst other figures, all shadowy and dark. They stop and there is this godawful creepy scene.... you see a dark, dark forest (this is a night scene) with a full moon above it, and train tracks disappearing into the trees. On the tracks slowly floating towards the station is an undead little girl, followed by a long single file progression undead animals...all glowing an eerie blue. Slowly these animals and the little girl float closer and closer until they get to the train station, and when they do, the little girl goes up to the shadow figure from the beginning of the dream and slowly wraps her hands around his neck. Behind her you can see the animals each hunting down their own shadowfigure to dispatch in whatever way possible. As the dream fades to blackness, a voiceover announcer is saying in a really creepy voice,
"...and when that fear, called Yellowbelly, is inflicted upon the innocent...." I woke up with the very distinct understanding that the dream was about the victims of child and animal abuse coming back to seek revenge on those that sent them to their unfair deaths. I could NOT get that quote out of my head the entire day...and even though it doesn't make a whole lot of sense at first, it means a lot to me now...even now the term yellowbelly sends shivers up my spine.
