    Mice!!!!

So this morning my boyfriend was looking in the closet for something and he opened a box to find a family of mice living in it! Now, he's the kind of person who can't stand nasty stuff and started yelling. I was asleep and woke to him dragging boxes outside. Ok so now we have a mouse problem! Most of my stuff in the closet is in plastic bins so I'm not worried about thoes but we do have some stuff in cardbord boxes that the mice completly cewed apart. We both had no clue there were even mice in the house. Now that we have emptied most of the closet there is mouse poop everywere yuck! I had noticed Gizmo sniffing the closet in the past month or so but I had no clue why, if only dogs could talk...

Well, I'll stop babbling and just get to my question... How on earth do you get rid of mice! What is the best thing to use? How do you stop them from comming back!Crying

only way to stop them from returning is to kill them, further find where they got in and fill the hole or more will just come back in. personally, i cant kill them, i use [linkroduct_Code=WDCMC01&Category_Code=WDCRT01]the>http://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WDC001&;Product_Code=WDCMC01&Category_Code=WDCRT01]the mice cube[/link] (less than $2 at walmart). which i guess if you found where they were coming in and remedied that you could catch them live and release them outdoors. i have them coming in under my kitchen sink, they dont go any further than that so i just catch and release them, but after a spell of catching them for days a few weeks ago i havent seen or heard any more, so maybe they dont always come back [&:]

Xebby, I did the catch and release, marked a mouse with fingernail polish and it did come back. This was in ABQ, so I know your mice will come back, too.

DON'T use poison. Find where they are coming in and block off the holes if you can. If not, just set traps and keep emptying them. Every Fall the mice try to move indoors as much as possible.

Use good old mouse traps. Snap snap snap.

Stevie caught lots of mice for me. Sofia catches and eats them in a flash. She's like the fox in the Gingerbread Man story. Snip, snap, snup! No more mouse!

So far we caught 4 mice and let them out, far away out. This happened last year and the year before as well and we had thought we sealed off the spots they were comming in threw but they came back! The year before we found a snake in the house and as soon as we took that out mice appeared. We used the sticky traps last year and thoes worked fine but I guess it didn't keep them from comming back. My boyfriend is at the point where he's just about had it and wants to go get poision, I don't even want to think about bringing that stuff into the house because I'm so worried that Giz will somehow get into it or eat a poisened mouse.

Right now our house is turned inside out with everything in piles outside. We completly emptied the closet, vaccumed it and sprayed the floors and walls with a strong concentration of Lysol. We have all the windows open and the fans going. I'm going to buy more plastic bins for everything we are not going to get rid of. I have more saved junk than I ever knew I owned. The closet needed to be cleened but I had no plans of doing that this weekend[:'(] I'm hopeing if I don't give the mice a place to make their nest then they won't come back, most of what they got into was clothing, I could live with throwing thoes away.

Anyone else have any more suggestions?

I keep telling my boyfriend we should get a cat and then we would not have to worry about the mice ever agein, but he doesn't like cats. I would love to have a cat but because of him I can't[:(] At least he likes dogs...

We use mice traps here to get rid of them and also we have Eli. Last year we cleaned out our pantry since we found Eli playing with two dead mice in a week. Ended up having seven more mice living in our pantry which Eli got the duty of catching and killing each one of them since Mocha wont do it. So each month we open the pantry door and let Eli check the pantry over for mice.

Did find a mouse on our back porch dead in the middle of the floor don't know what killed it though.

    How about a ferret??

On to day 2 of the cleaning... I'm afrade the mice are in other parts of the house so just to be safe we are going to clean under the bed and everywere we keep things stored. Looks like it's yard sale time with all the stuff I discoved that I just don't need[:)]

I really wish I knew how to convince my boyfriend that a cat would make a good pet.

How about  fix him a bowl of cereal and have a fake mouse in it. So it kind of pops out of the cereal when he's eating it[:D]

My mom had mice getting into her shed and garage.  Unfortunately, the cat couldn't stop them all.  She bought some Moth Balls and scattered them about the floor, making sure she got as close the edge as possible and last year, for the first time, she didn't see any.  It finally got ridof the rats my my neighbor had getting into his garage and chewing everything up!
Mom also had one get into her car, the air ducts?  and build a nest.  She spent $125 to have it cleaned out & repaired.  Not liking the smell of moth balls, putting them in her car (or air ducts) was out.  I read somewhere that Peppermint was a natural deterent, so I sent her a bottle of Peppermint Oil and told her to place a few drops on her air filter.  It worked, no mice last winter.  She's repeating the process this fall, as the temps drop, they try to find a warm place.

Aww, yes! Peppermint! I remember hearing about that somewhere. I have some of that stuff growing outside that I use to make tea, think I'll hide some in the closet and see how that works out, can't do any more harm than what the mice do. I don't know about moth balls, I really just don't like the smell but it would beet having mice. Thanks for the suggestions!

You're welcome.  Let me know if the peppermint works.  If your fresh mint leaves don't work, try the oil.  It's concentrated and has a nice strong scent, which I love!

Yeah I don't like the smell of moth balls either.  But, if the mice persist, maybe you could sprinkle some along the outside of the house.  I don't know if that's an option, would Gizmo try to eat them?

Mothballs are very poisonous. Just use mouse traps! Why not???
