Anyone buying a PS3 or a Wii?

well they're trying to fix it...I think the number of games that would not play was 200? That's sizeable IMO. But if it's fixable then like you said...later next year might be a good time to buy, as hopefully the price would be down as well.

They said they changed the name to be more inclusive and unifying in feeling..."we"...I think it's dumb as well. Personally I think the other name was too long tho. I'd have chosen something else entirely.

I'm getting a Wii as are all of my friends.  We're a big group of gamers.  Imho Nintendo is going to come back out on top after this round.  The PS3 is just too expensive for your average person to buy.  Right now my room mate and I have two PS2s, two GCs, 2 N64s, an X Box 360, a Supernintendo, and an original Nintendo between the two of us.  Asap we'll also have two Wiis.

Most of them have been die hard PS fans, but that's changed mainly due to the price of the PS3.  I mean, you can get a Wii and a 360 for the same price as a PS3.  And plus, the Wii can play old games that you can download online.  And then the controller looks amazing...

Nintendo products last so well.  Our original Nintendo is from the original release in 85 and has never had any problems whatsoever.  Still runs like new.  I went to a store and was looking for games for it and the manager was impressed saying that it shouldn't still work unless we had it repaired at least once.

ETA:  Revolution sounded much cooler than Wii imo.

There are SO many things I can add (I wish I had caught this thread earlier).  I'll start with this:

They SAY the Wii won't be short shipped by Nintendo so that should help. The first batch ALWAYS have bugs so I think we're waiting a few weeks to see what happens there.

I am told that they have produced 4 million(!) plus systems and are still producing more as we speak.

all the gameboys i played the screen was too dark even with a light attached. the ds seemed to have a much brighter screen.

The reason the DS (and the GB Advance) look so much brighter is because Nintendo FINALLY decided to back light the systems (Sega did this LONG time ago).  I honestly think that Sony is trying too hard to make things an all-in-one system (PS2, PS3, PSP), which is why you have to pay WAY too much for a GAMING system.  The PSPs look nice, but as Meilani has said, they are WAY too fragile.

The funny part about the PS3 is that you have to spend MORE than $600 to play it.  [:@]  The HD cable is $100 on it's own!!  Then there are the games, which are going to be selling at $60.  *sigh*

The Wii is going to be selling at $250, the games are staying at the $50 max price.  The BEST part is that you will be able to DOWNLOAD old school nintendo games and play them on your Wii!!!!!  (THAT is my favorite part) [:D][:D][:D]

You should see the "town" that has formed outside of Best Buy for the PS3!! There's been a guy there since TUESDAY!!! [&:]  The funniest part about it all is that most of the people that are in line already are just going to sell it on Ebay!  Crazy people!

    no sega stuff?

i've got an original nintendo that still works too (never been repaired). i havent played it in quite sometime though. still have my genesis too. never got the cd add-on though. the oldest console i have is the atari 2600. it might still work. i know a couple of the buttons/levers on the front are broken, but you can still make them work with a little finagling. doesnt matter though as all the old cool games for it can be played on an emulator.

i tried playing a couple of games on the gamecube. the controller felt weird after having used the ps controller so long. i think its biggest drawback is that it takes those small discs and cant play dvd's.

I heard 90 for the PS3 games...  Anyways, whatever it is, it's still expensive.

And I can't believe I forgot to add that I'm excited for Super Smash Bros Brawl even though it's not a launch game.

Nope, no Sega stuff.  :(  I always wanted one and played the one in my orthodontist's office all the time.   My room mate had a Genesis but traded it in for something.  My parents have an Atari somewhere too but I doubt it works.  I haven't seen it in ages.

you outta pick up a dreamcast off of ebay sometime. i got one for $20. had two controllers (og), memory card (og), rumble pak (og) and 2 games. most of the games ever made for dc (no matter if they are european, japanese, etc) can be downloaded and burned to a regular disc and played without making any mods to the dc.

the video quality is on par with ps2. controller is setup similar to xbox.

    fun stuff. [:D]

My DH is going to school for Video Game Design so he thinks he NEEDS every system (but I actually don't fight too hard about it).  We have Nintendo (top loading), Super Nintendo, N64, GB, GBA, Xbox, X360, PS2, Sega GameGear, Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast.  I REALLY want an Atari, but I just haven't put much effort into getting one.[&:]

DH was trying to get me to pool all our xmas $$ together and get a Wii as our gift to each other & from everyone that'll send us $$.  The bad part is I'm really considering it!  [8D]

My DH did this.  He even downloaded games from the internet & played them on the DC.  OH!  He also burned videos and played them on the DC.

the dc pretty much runs on windows ce os, so there are lots of hacks of different things you can do with a dc.
