Anyone buying a PS3 or a Wii?

i have always been a fan of the tony hawk games, and tony hawk 1 and 2 on dreamcast are very superior to the same games on ps1 or n64.

dreamcast also had the first net capable gaming system (similar to xbox live).

of course i have been a sega fan since genesis came out and kicked nintendos a$$. [:D]

I do NOT like to play games on itty bitty screens (read anything below 37")...I like them BIG and I like them LOUD lol. That's what a gaming system is for...to completely surround you (and the others playing) in the experience. You don't have to hover over it....you don't have to stay next to it even....you can control your guy from the bathroom if you want lmao...

It's more inclusive...four people playing Mario party is hysterical to say the least...can't do that on one laptop. And Dance Dance Revolution? That Donkey Kong Bongo game? Guitar Hero?....erm...no...lol.

We own a DS and I like it but the hovering really gets old after a while.

Those are my reasons at least.

i have thought about trying one of the dance, dance games. are they really fun?

i also always wanted to try the dreamcast game you use the maracas with, but never bought the things.

edit: been trying to get the wife to let me get a ds or a psp. have you played a psp? and if so which is better?

Bradley they are a HOOT esp when everyone's had a few! OMG...

I am a great dancer but terrible at those games..lol. It's more like "how well can you follow a script/directions QUICKLY" and evidently I am not good at that. It's fun to try tho....and it burns calories really well lol. You will be huffin puffin ans sweatin at the end.

When I can buy a computer for less than a game system it's not worth my money... no PS3 for me[8D]  Besides, $600 is more than I made in the last two months and I am not going to waste it on something like that.  Just give me an old original nintendo with mario and duck hunt and I'll be happy.[;)]

I like my computer over anything for games and stuff like that.  I can take my laptop with me anywere, watch DVDs on it, play games, go online, chat, do my homework and more.  Much more useful than any game system IMO.

the new ps3 is going to be half computer and half gaming system from what i understand. also, i know of a few people who hacked their original xbox, and use it to surf the net as well as play games.

I still think I'm much better off with my laptop.  I can take that with me to my boring lecuture classes and play games or even come on idog during class using the schools wi-fi connection and no one know that I'm not taking notes[;)]  How do you think I find so much time to be here in the first place?[:)]

I'm sure it's a great system for some people, I just don't see it as being worth my money.

Oh...no I haven't played with a PSP. I think the movie option on those is cool...but it's more little discs to hold onto and not lose so that would be a problem for me.

The DS is a fun little machine. I am wanting to try those "test your brain" games they have but haven't yet. We have MarioKartDS, Animal CrossingDs, Nintendogs, and TetrisDS for it....all the games are fun in short bursts.

One bummer? I have yet to get the DS wireless feature to work using our home router [&:]

i cant see spending $600 either, but maybe in a year or so the price will come down a bit.

i dont think the system could replace a computer, but being able to use it to surf the net might make it the price tag more appealing to a person with a pre-teen kid (only having to buy a gaming system instead of a computer and a gaming system).
    • Gold Top Dog
i think the movie option is cool in essence, but i dont want to have to buy 2 copies of all my favorites just so i can have them mobile.  if there were some way you could play the movies either on a home gaming console or a dvd player, that would be better.

i have only looked at the ds in a store, but i have to say i like the screen better than gameboy color or gameboy advance. all the gameboys i played the screen was too dark even with a light attached. the ds seemed to have a much brighter screen.
    • Gold Top Dog
Oh yes great visibility. No need for a light source externally at all. The two screen feature is neat and it's cool to see how some games utilize both. The old GB games only use the bottom one of course....but it's still nice to be able to play them. Backwards compatibility is important...that's one thing Nintendo lost when they went to discs from cartridges. But had to be done!

I understand the PS3 cannot play all old Ps or PS2 games...they're supposedly working on that.

We have a psp and I can tell you its awsome. We so did not spend 300 dollars on it, we actually got it for free bran spanking new before they even hit KB Toys [:)]

The movies play awsome, its like your watching straight from your home, it looks as good or better then when you watch it on DVD at home. Also, the games play really nice. Its something sleek and cool looking to play whenever you get bored. I'd recommend it over the DS anyday

I miss the original Nintendo. I LOVED Pro Wrestling. Pirahna Man and Star Man were my favorites. I actually have a NES emulator on the puter but I can't figure out how to work it.

As far as the PSP goes, I do NOT recommend it. My son got one for his birthday 2 years ago and he accidently dropped it. Even though it had a rubber casing on it, the LCD screen broke. My sons father had to jump through hoops to exchange it and the second one fell out of his book bag onto the bed and the LCD screen broke. You would think that for $200 it would be a little bit studier. We've had Gameboys and I'm not lying, you could beat someone up with it and it would still work perfectly fine. We can't replace the second one and it's not even worth fixing. My son is going to sell all his PSP accessories and games and use the money towards a Wii.
    • Gold Top Dog
Meilani agreed. Nintendo products don't break...ever. lol.

Our DS has been handled DAILY by 3 and 5 y/o's, dropped yes on lots of surfaces....the only thing wrong is that the stylus is missing (couch ate it) and the screen is crusty (windex! lmao).

This sucker has been ABUSED and it still trucking along with no problems....the screen's not even scarred from my kiddo's dragging the then present stylus or their fingers across it!

The Boy has the DS too and it's been running fine. I am really disappointed in the PSP though. He was thrilled when he got it for his birthday and even though I can't get that kid to clean his room, he's very meticulous with his game systems(He has Gamecube, DS and he uses my step brothers PS2) and the games. So when the LCD screen broke, the look on his face broke my heart because he really loved that thing. When the second one broke, he was mad. Sony does NOT cover broken LCD screens and it turns out that's the most popular thing that breaks in the PSP. You can get them repaired for around $70+ but what's the point if it's so fragile? His friend let him borrow his but I wouldn't let him play with it for fear that it would break and I'd have to shell out $200. With that said, even though those PSP's are nice, I wouldn't recommend them ESPECIALLY for children.

Thats strange, ive had it for I dont know how long (since before it was out) and it doesnt even have a scratch and I can be a bit careless!

if the ps3 can't play all my games, then i may as well look at the cheaper xbox 360. that has been the main reason i have stuck with ps. got ps1 games i still like to play on occassion, but i sure dont want to have a ps1, ps2, and ps3 sitting on the shelf.

not to dis the wii, but their pre-manufacture name was cooler... revolution. wonder why they changed it?
