I think the racism perhaps arises when you try to make using a native language aside from English on signs or advertisements illegal...such as they have done.
When my grandfather on my dad's side came here, he realized that to succeed here, he would need to learn English. He would not let his children speak anything but. So, what happened? His first generation American kids became: an interior designer, a lawyer, a business owner, a CPA, and a housewife (with two daughters who went to ivy league schools). Not bad. If they had bilingual education in those days, they would probably have ended up working at McD's speaking Lithuanian. Frankly, I think he made the right choice.
