Severe Injury....

Mic  OMG!  Just got here.  Hope your eye heals perfect!  So any chance you can turn the offending dog into a police dog?  It doesnt sound too soft!  JK.

The stitches are for the cuts not the puncture wounds.  They just scrub the hell out of the punctures.  That is really pleasant!

Nothing will happen to the dog (the bite will not be reported in connection with this dog.  I make that promise to my clients before we start).  As most of you know I work with aggressive dogs daily, and getting bit is part of what we do.  It is an unfortunate danger of our job.  Dogs absolutely live in the moment and the dog was past the bite the moment after it happened.  The dog that bit is a very handsome (and extremely aggressive) basset hound.  We were working through his obedience, and he was being a little stubborn with down.  I went to lure him down and came over top of him.  He snapped and bit my face.  I thought we had a better relationship than that...he disagreed.  It happens.  Back to the drawing boards with this guy.

I am shocked at the news of a Bassett hound being aggressive firstly and secondly a Bassett Hound??? Wow Mic.

I am also very happy to hear the dog will not be put to sleep either. Thanks Mic.

Mic, Sorry to hear about your injury. Our best thoughts and prayers for no permanent damage. Saber thinks a slobbery Dane kiss will help but I'll talk him into just a paw wave in your direction.

I have a nasty 2 inch scar from a basset that stated that he didn't want his nails trimmed- period. That was 2 years ago, and if I use my finger too much, it starts to hurt.

This goes to show that any breed of dog can be aggressive.

I understand the part about getting bit that's in the job, Mic. At least in the salon we can use muzzles and we can refuse the dog if we feel our safety or the safety of the dog is jeopardized.

So Sorry about your bite, we are holding good thoughts for you here!!

Wow, a basset, they may be low to the ground but they have big heads and big mouths and I'm sure very big teeth (and they are strong as heck to boot)!!

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better, hope you get well soon!

He's about 70lbs of stubborn fun.  He really has come a long way since we started.  I couldn't touch him for the first 2 weeks, and now he typically listens pretty well.  Just a bad day at the office.  No big deal.

Holy Crap Mic! I hope you're able to make a full recovery.

Mic, I'm so sorry for your injury! I hope you get your sight back with good vision. Is this the kind of injury cornea transplants are good for?

If you have to wear an eye patch, (and you don't have a parrot), then tell everyone you are a actually a secret agent.

Tell them that training dogs is just your cover, and that some of your dogs are specially-trained secret agent dogs, too.

    That'll get you some girls!

I must say I was only KIDDING about the gettin chicks thing....

My wife is gonna read this and think I'm up to something...

    Sorry hunny....

Holy smokes Mic! I'll be sending good thoughts your way. What I'm most impressed by is how understanding you are towards the dog and seem to hold no hatred towards him. Good luck to you and I hope you heal well. [:)]

On a side note, regarding chicks digging blind guys... I've told many a male stripper that I'm blind and I need to feel what I'm seeing. LOL!!! [sm=biggrin.gif]

Do you think that would work on random women?

    (kidding steph...)

Awww, I'm sorry to hear it was a Basset...sob...  Yes, I've heard of some being aggresive, although not often.  My son almost got one that someone didn't want.  When he brought him to show me, we discovered that if we tried to pat him on the neck, he would snap.  Lousy owners, in that case.

I hope you make a full recovery, Mic.  As far as the "needing to feel" thing working on random women, probably not.  Might work on your wife, though.  But I'd hurry before she stops feeling sorry for you.  [;)]

I think this case was poor breeding, and a hard dog with a soft owner.  She has several other bassets that are great, this guys just a special case.
