    Animal Sounds From Computer

    HI,
I am new here for about about 2 weeks.  Since that time whenever my computer is idle (e.g reading a post) sounds of dog barking, a cat meowing, and now a dog's aggressive growling are coming out of my computer.  The dog barking and cat meowing was cute but now with the growling, my dogs are getting upset.  The timing maybe coincidental, but has anyone experienced this?  Any suggestions as to how to resolve?

Nope, not a thing on my computer except the stupid AOL sounds.  I'd run a virus scan, but I can promise you this isn't something that comes from dog.com.  In the meantime, perhaps just mute your volume?

Then I don't get to hear that wonderful voice "You've got mail".

Well, I guess you'll just have to choose between having your animals frightened or hearing that annoying voice.......but either way, you've clearly picked up a virus someplace and hunting it down and killing it is the best thing to do.

It's a screen saver - "DOGZ" by any chance? Check the preferences to see if you can set it to make different sounds. I had a barking dog alert until Amber attacked my computer. [sm=lol.gif]

All my preferences are set up as Windows XP default...nothing special.  My ISP is AOL 9 Security.  I performed a virus scan today using Norton and nothing.

Could the sounds possibly be coming from your aol buddy list? I have a friend on my list and his  buddy list sound is a dog barking, I had to change the setting in my list preference not to play buddy sounds.

Ah, I know nothing of AOL. I would contact their tech support and see if they can shed some light on it. Maybe they're aware of this happening elsewhere?

    theresamat and debbie,

I contacted AOL LIVE HELP and they said the same thing, its coming from your Buddy List.  I don't use the Buddy List and am not familar with its function so they walked me through it.  Reference Buddy List, Click on "Setup", Click on "IM Settings", go to the tab "Expressions", change setting in "Buddy Arrival & Departure Sounds" to be "Do not play any sounds".  Hope that does it.  Really caused a stir with the dogs.

Normally I would say since you have done your good deed for the day you get to go home from work early.  Since its the weekend your good deed is on OT so you get to do two devilish things to get back to being balanced.  Thank you so much.

Gee.  I'm envious.  I don't even have a "You've got Mail" noise thingy. I just have to remember to check it myself.[;)]
