Along with what others have said, in order to sell a 6 week old puppy, they must pull them from mom at about 4 weeks, when they should be with mom at least 2 months to 10 weeks, to learn proper socialization and doggy manners. There is care and time in that which is not evident in a puppy mill. Part of the reason it costs a good chunk of money from a legitimate breeder is the time involved. Plus, pet stores do not have a take back policy and do not guarantee the health of some of their dogs. And the dams are bred constantly. This results in a worn-out dam and sickly litters. As well as horrid living conditions. For the puppy mill to make a profit, they must mass-produce and there are too many dogs for them to handle properly. And yet, Petland is still going to charge legitimate breeder price, or higher, without producing health certs. And the AKC wants to join up with them in getting pet store puppy buyers to AKC register their pets. Not because the pets are actually AKC quality but because the AKC wants more money. IMHO, AKC has lost any respect I could have for them. Hunte Corp., a huge puppy mill is the primary supplier for Petland.
What value does an AKC reg have now?
