    What to do? Snake subject

My cousin has a python. She has asked me to breed my rabbits so she could buy a litter and feed them to her snake. I really don't like the idea. If I don't sell them to her she will just go to the pet store a buy them, so I figured why not  me make the money from it?  But I don't know if my heart could handle it. I only breed the rabbits when people have requested them. And they go to people who plan on keeping them as pets not food. Although, I do have meat rabbits that we will eat,  I don't sell meat rabbits to other people. If I sold her a litter of meat rabbits their fate ends up the same right?  I had a hard time getting used to raising the rabbits for us to eat, so raising a litter for her snake to eat......YUCK, I just don't know. Do you think I'm being silly?

I think you're being silly.  Sell her a couple of meat rabbits but only under the condition that you get to watch.  [:)]

LOL, I don't want to watch. I really don't like seeing things like that. i don't watch when the rabbits get cleaned.

Hmm, that is a tough decision. Personally, if I was you I would sell them to her, but not watch. (ahem, Billy) I'm raising New Zealands for the fair as a FFA project, I have 7 bunnies and 3 of them are going to fair, I'm hoping the other 4 will go to homes as pets but if someone wanted them for meat then I probably would sell them...It's hard, baby rabbits are so cute!

Why don't you sell her a  breeding pair so she can make her own and thus not have to bother you again?

I think most BIG snake people break down and start breeding their own food at some point?
    • Gold Top Dog
That is a great idea. I will do just that.

I thought that was a great idea, too.  Much better than asking you to supply dinner for the snakes out your own rabbit supply.  Don't they eat rats/mice also?  I don't think they're very much at places like Pet-Co.

    LMAO!!!

Yeah, selling her a breeding pair would be best.  Still, the thought of it makes me sick.  I can handle my kitten bringing a dead rat into the house (which I would promptly discard -- if she didn't run off to hide, that is), but I can't stomach the idea of a snake eating a rabbit.  Go figure.

I think it's because rabbits are so cute and cuddly - we just don't think of them as *rodents* even though they are. For me, seeing a snake eat a rabbit would be a lot worse that seeing a snake scarf up a mouse or a rat [:D] and even that wouldn't be a pleasant thing to watch.

I think you ought to get them to give up the snake...Get them into rabbit breeding instead,,

then i would box up the snake and send it to Glenda..[:)]

Just as another option, this site sells humanely euthanized frozen feeder animals.

I didn't look but I wouldn't feed my snake anything with "blue juice" floating around in it's veins.

How are they killing them humanely without drugs?

On their FAQ page ([linkhttp://www.rodentpro.com/qpage_faqs.asp]http://www.rodentpro.com/qpage_faqs.asp[/link] )  they say they use C02.  Acording to them C02 allows a humane death for the rodents, and leaves no harmful residue for the snakes.  I don't have snakes so I have never used their products.  The way I heard about this site is through a pet rat forum I belong too.  Many of the people who own both, reptiles and rodents use rodentpro, I guess for obvious reasons [:)]....

Before I get type-casted as a crazy rodent activist, lol... the only reason I mentioned the site is because I think it is always nice to have options.
