    Rose found a Cat

I was walking Rose today and she kept sniffing under the cars and was trying to go under one in particular.  I looked under the car and there was a black, long haired cat.  It is very friendly and not scared of dogs at all.  Hes also very skinny so it seems as if he has been out for a while.  He has a collar on, but no tags.  I brought him in and have him in a crate.  I bought a can of food (not the best brand, but it will work for now) and fed him.  I can't really keep him here, so I think I am going to have to take him to the humane society.  I asked my apartment manager if she knew whose it was, but she has never seen him before and he is not in any of the files.  I feel bad taking him to the humane society, but I don't have a choice.  All of my friends are allergic to cats so they cant keep him.  I plan on telling them I will foster if I need to.

How nice of you to take the cat in even if just temporarily. Most people would just leave it on the street to starve or get hit by a car. So at least it's safe.

Don't feel guilty taking it the HS. If the owners are looking for it, they will be able to find it there. You could always put up found posters in your neighborhood before you drop it off. And if the owners don't find it, then you can think about fostering it.

Here is a link to a flyer that has worked several times for me.
A lot of cat owners don't even look for their cats because they assume they will come home by themselves.  You could type Urgent--pick up at  the Humane Society and the H.S.'s contact info.  The papers may also let you place a free ad.  Good luck finding him a home.

I found his home!  I took him down to Animal Control this afternoon, and the owner had just put up a sign this morning.  So, I called her and she came right down.  She is actually watching him for her mom.  He was very skinny, so I gave her the rest of the Chicken Soup food that I had bought him and suggested that she change to it.  She was feeding Purina Indoor Formula (Cats don't need greens!)  She thanked me for my advice and said she would try it.  I'm so glad I found his home because he would likely have not been adopted since he was older.

Yay! It's great to hear a happy end to a story like that. [:D]

You did the right thing and you got to educate someone in the process. Hopefully they'll take your advice about the food.
