    Favorite book/author

We've done favorite movies and TV shows, now it's time for your favorite book or author. I'll start.

My favorite books are the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Absolutely capitvating story. Great characters, great plot, great twists. Really makes you think about life and death. There are 7 of them and if I had to choose a favorite, I couldn't.

Recently the best books I've read are Marley and Me and the Good Good Pig. Really great books for animals lovers. I like anything having to do with animals. I've read quite a few dog training books also.

My favorite authors are Stephen King, Anne Rice, and John Grisham. I read mostly mainstream, bestsellers--mainly I read just to escape from life, so I look for something fairly shallow. I read quickly, though, and I'm running out of books. I'm looking forward to hearing about what the rest of you like to read.

    Anything by Janet Evanovich

My FAVORITE is "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. This book is amazing, it's an awesome story-line. Written like nothing I've read before, it's a love story/fiction but not in a "girly" way!
It's funny because last week my DH came to me for something to read. He was at home sick and had nothing to do. He's a history teacher so usually he reads something history related but likes to read fiction on occasion. I offered him The Time Traveler's Wife and he said "no, I don't want to read a girly love story".
4 hours later I come home from lunch and cannot find DH anywhere.... he was laying in bed (with Joey on his stomach) reading the "girly love story". He loved it! [:D]

Stephen King is my favorite author. My favorite book of his was probably "The Drawing of the Three", part of the Gunslinger series, close in second would be "Eyes Of The Dragon". I've been disappointed with his latest efforts but I reread his old stuff quite often.

JRR Tolkien is right there with him...as are Terry Goodkind,  David Eddings, and Robert Jordan.

For a good trash read I like Laurell K. Hamilton.

I've also enjoyed books by Ellis Peters..but only the Brother Cadfael ones, and one of the BEST books I've ever read was "The Alienist" by Caleb Carr. There are so many...but I'd say none really approaches the way I was changed when I read Stephen King  or JRR Tolkien for the first time.

I love to read so this question is always hard for me to answer. However, one of my favorite series is the Earth Children's series (The Clan of the Cave Bear and so forth) by Jean M. Auel. For page turners, I love John Grisham and Dan Brown. I think my favorite book of all time is Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor. I'm one of those that can read the same book over and over again.

i like everything by brett easton ellis, except for "glamorama".

i really liked irvine welsh's first 4 books, but i havent read anny of the newer ones.

"zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance" by robert m. pirsig.

"under the tuscan sun" by frances mayes (hated the movie though)

"the hills of tuscany" by ferenc mate

"bones would rain from the sky" by suzaanne clothier

my all time favorite book though has to be "the catcher in the rye" by j.d. salinger. i spoke with two of my cousins who are seniors in high school, and they said that book is no longer on their school's reading list. that is such a shame.

I love the John Sandford Prey series - suspense and murder.  Since I drive so much, I usually listen to books on CD.  There has been many a night where I have driven around the block a few times so I could find out how the killer is.  [:D]

I loved Eyes of the Dragon. That was such a great book! King's new stuff has been pretty disappointing. Facing death didn't help his writing at all.

I'd really like to read The Time Traveller's Wife. Did they make that into a movie? It sounds familiar. My DH is a history major, someday will be a history teacher when he gets out of the military. His taste in books sounds like your husband's, Nadine. [:D]

I forgot to mention Dan Brown. I love him too. All of his books are fantastic.

I'm into mainstream, bestsellers and chick lit. Like lokis_mom, I'm in it for the escape.

Some of my favs John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell, Mary Higgins Clark, Sue Grafton, Marian Keyes, Sophie Kinsella, and Jennifer Weiner. One of my very favorite book though is the nonfiction Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer.

I'm a big reader too so it's hard to pick a favorite... I love Margaret Atwood, Augusten Burroughs, and Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. Karen Armstrong is a wonderful non-fiction writer whom I adore. Bones Would Rain From the Sky was also a big one for me.

I think Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston bought the rights to the book a while ago and it's supposed to be in production now. It might be a good movie but I think that the books are ususally better!

Wow Terri, my husband got out of the military last year after his Iraq tour and is almost finished student teaching now. I bet they would get a long great [:)]!

Oh, yes Dan Brown is awesome too, I also like to read James Patterson. I cannot read any of the history books DH likes to read, I work 2 jobs and when I finally get to relax I need to read something "easy" [:D]!

Heh, I go for Science Fiction Fantasy.  Anne MacCaffrey and Katherine Kerr are two of my favorites.  I've read the Dragons of Pern and Deverry books over and over again.  Those are books I would never sell.  Both series have one or two more out that I want to get but haven't gotten around to it yet.

OK, so similar to other's on this thread I lOVE "Into Thin Air" John Krakauer, Jean Auel, Janet Evanovich.
That said, the only books I have ever read multiple times are:
Memiors of a Geisha and Jane Eyre.[:D]
Also enjoy some Ayn Rand sometimes.

I read a LOT and I have tons of favorites...I really like animal based fantasy... like "Tailchaser's Song" (forget the author), "The Wild Road" by Gabriel King (I think), and "Felidae"...don't know the author to that one either.  There seem to be a lot of cat books in that genre... I also liked "The Foxes of FirstDark" and of course I'm a large Tolkien fan and I like the Harry Potter books [;)]

Apart from my nerdy side, I really liked "The Dogs of Babel" by Carolyn Parkhurst.  For some reason I also like John Steinbeck and I feel weird reading his stuff on my own away from school...it makes me feel like such a loser [&:]  I liked "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" and "Life of Pi" as well.

Nikki I have Tailchaser's Song!  lol... and the next one in the series as well.  There's another cat series that I liked but can't remember the name off hand. Has Seekers and mind reading Ghats(cats) in it.
