    The House Hunt gets Frustrating

I've been driving around trying to find a decent place to buy. I'm not having any luck.

Earlier in the summer it was a seller's market, and the sellers still think it IS. Everyone and his brother-in-law have put their POS up for sale. No matter that 80% of them would never pass an inspection, thus never be financiable....and the other 20% are WAY WAY overpriced.

Sinking foundations, rotten logs, no windows, mold mold mold.... I went out to one place today that was just a shell. A HUGE three story SHELL. Nothing else. Mud all around. No electrical, no sheet rock no siding, just a bare frame. Not even stairs!! And they wanted $90,000 for it. WTF??????

Needless to say a bunch of these have been on the market for six months or more. Why they aren't getting real about them I have no idea.

I've seen some terribly depressing stuff lately.

    I'm so frustrated.

Meanwhile my landlord continues to get crazier and crazier and scarier and scarier. My boyfriend even says I have reason to be scared. And no, I can't move in with my boyfriend, he lives in a waterless cabin that is about 200 sq. ft. With two cats, to whom I'm allergic.

I went to a great workshop yesterday, it was an all day thing about loans and buying a house given by the Alaska Housing Corporation (a non-profit organization). I learned a LOT.

Now if I could only FIND a place to put that knowledge to work!

Can everyone please do some personal voo doo so that I find a place that I a) want, and b) can afford and c) WILL get my offer accepted?

    SIGH.

I've heard that's becoming common in several parts of the country... the housing market is stagnating because the sellers just won't get with the program and drop their prices. Hopefully it'll turn around soon - I'll do some personal voodoo for you! Any way to do a short-term rental to tide you over?

No, moving is a HUGE pain. I'll be moving into a new place within two months. By the end of November at the latest. The snow is coming. Last year freeze up happened so fast that the leaves weren't even off all the trees! The trees started turning last week and now they are almost ALL golden. And yes, it's very pretty. :o)

Renting would mean a huge expenditure that I can't afford. I am buying a house on a shoestring anyway, have to save up earnest money, it's that bad. I can do it, though! And Scott will help a little, too.

I just can't can't can't absolutely won't put up with renting anymore!! CRAZY efffing landlords! I just want to feel safe and that I have a HOME.

Renting doesn't ever let you feel that you have a real home. :-(

Thanks, Erin, I appreciate the good thoughts and thanks everyone for letting me vent. I'll try to take a chill pill.....[&:]

Oh, and I called my son today he told me my ex mother-in-law died this morning, and she was Ole's best and really only grandma who loved him a whole bunch. He's all broken up about it and I'm not exactly happy, either. [:(]

Sorry for the frustrations, Jean.  Hoping all the elements fall into place and QUICKLY.

Also sorry to hear of Ole's loss of a dear grandma; may she rest in peace.

    Jean,
I was told that rubbing the belly of a Buddha brings good luck.  I found a couple of pictures,(sorry so small). Print them & you rub Buddha's belly & have Sophia rub Buddha Dog.  I'm sending good vibes - good luck!

I'm sorry you've had such a frustrating house hunt so far.  I know how that is.  As if making the decision to go ahead with such a big financial step in one's life isn't stressful enough -- when the house hunting isn't going smoothly, then that makes it worse.  My cousin and her DH were recently hunting on a tight budget, and it was scary how terrible some of the properties were in their price range.  They seemed nearly condemned!

When we were having trouble selling our old house, someone told us to bury a St. Joseph figurine upside down in the yard.  My mother sent us one ASAP and into the ground he went (he's probably still there).  I wonder if there's something similar for buyers to do?  Maybe someone here will have an idea.  In the meantime, just don't give up hope, and keep looking.  Something suitable will come along!

OMG I HAVE that Buddha dog!!!!!!!

I'll just rub Sofia's tummy. She'll like that.

Yeah, the burying St. Joseph upside down in the yard is the selling thing. Maybe I should go dig one up somewhere? Would that be the opposite? [&:]

Thanks for the support, you guys. I'm a little calmer than I was when I wrote before, but then, it's almost ten at night already.

YES, Tacran, some of the houses I've seen are definitely condemnable. Certainly not liveable. Today I had to shake myself to stop from thinking, "I must not deserve a house because I'm just not rich enough!" That's not true at all, but it sure FELT that way.

Thing is, I don't know how much of a loan I'm going to be able to get. I think that once I know the amount, I'll feel MUCH better, and that it will have to be more than what the broker was telling me last week. Because if it isn't, I might as well go live in a tent. [8|] No, really, I think I'll get a decent amount. I may have to ditch that broker though, if she can't get it together for me better, and sooner.

I feel for you. I'm guessing buying a piece of land and building on it would be too much?
Houses around here are not selling, people asking $500,00 for houses that need so much work.
    I'm sending you good house vibes {{{{{{{{ }}}}}}}}

I understand how hard it is to find a house, right now my city is going through a real estate boom, 1-bedroom apartments renting out for 900 dollars a month [&:] Our house prices are the highest in canada.

Hope you find a good house [:)]

    Obituaries?

Sounds morbid but I know people do it in New York.

Well, my great mortgage broker is doing nothing for me....so now I have a new one.....

I told him my story and how frustrated I am. He just got done looking for a house himself, and he said I'm right, there's mostly crap out there right now. [:@]

But he comes VERY highly recommended and actually works at the bank I bank at. So let's hope I get something DONE finally.
