I got robbed

I am by no means saying that every black man is innocent of any crime that he supposedly commited, or that every black man is not lazy (to cite a few typical stereotypes) but I do believe that society has something to do with the supposed "problems" that minorities create, if that makes any sense.  I don't think that it can be denied that the views of the majority of people in our society has something to do with the successes (or lack there of) of minority people.  This should not be interpreted to mean that I think that minorities are unsuccessful.  Just the opposite, actually, however, there is something to say about the population represented in the welfare system, jails, etc.  I just feel, personally, that minority populations are kept down by the majority, to a degree.  Of course, there are people out there of all ethnicities who are lazy, who take advantage of the system, etc.  I just don't think that it is fair to stereotype, or point fingers at someone because of their ethnicity.   It is imperative that we take a look at all of the factors involved.  Socialization can be a viscous cycle, and socialization has much to do with society.

I could go on and on, but Im not sure that this is the appropriate place.  I don't want to upset anyone, nor do I want to get into an unreconciliable debate.  I think we should just leave it at agree to disagree.
 
I know, I am a bleeding heart liberal, and I have come to accept the fact that many people do not agree with my views.  That is ok with me.

It is NOT about the color of the jail population, it is not about what race commits the most crimes or why or who the hecks fault it is.
 
Lena made an innocent comment about the color of her attacker and her subsequent fear of the thugs of a like color.  I fully admit that when I was the victim of an ARMED robbery that I also gave men of that particular age and color a bit wider berth for several weeks.    Same thing after the attempted rape.  That did not make all men of that color potential rapists or robbers any more than ANY other color.

angel you don't have to back up or qualify your personal feelings on someone, IMO. You feel the way you do and someone else feels differently. It's not a debate or a popularity poll where you are trying to sway opinions or win followers.

BTW...to the op of this opinion...there ARE rules about stating what you may think of someone...and you might have to answer for it. But again...that's the price of airing an opinion publicly or with intensity.

Excuse me Gina, I am not trying to win a popularity contest or sway one person one way or the other.  I think to simply say "I think Billy is a jerk" is uncalled for. Is she had said "I think Gina is a jerk" would you not take offence or want to know why she thinks that, just from something you said? I think everyone is free to post their opinion, but as I recall name calling is not allowed on this forum.

Again, can we please return to the actual TOPIC of this thread??

You know what, this has all turned into BS.
I shared what has happened to me with all of you, my forum dog friends and this has turned into nothing more then a issin match.
I am entitled to the way I feel and obviously this is not the place where I can express it or some of you will feel that I am a bigot. Glenda, I feel your pain because of the things that have happened to you, you were not in conrol. Billy, you have your reasons to feel whatever way you may feel due to past circumstances or whatever and it is not my place to judge you on that or throw insults at you. Every single person on here has different issues that they have dealt with and dislikes for certain people. Does this make you wrong for the way you feel, not in my eyes. You are entitled to feel anyway you find fit.
I don't think Angel is trying to kiss anyones behind by getting a bit defensive about Billy being called a jerk, I didn't like it at all. He may be a bit of a wise cracker but he seems to know what he is talking about. I think Angel is a bit sensitive to the nasties and that makes her a good person. Shows she has a big heart.
Life experience has a tendency of changing the way we feel about people. I do not have any sympathy for people who have stereotyped themselves. I didn't do it to them. They brought it upon themselves and that's all there is to it.

And for those who have asked, I still am trying to deal with this. I can't sleep at night because I just don't feel safe anymore. I am the one who has baracaded myself in and I am the one who is in prison.

To those who have been insulted and name called, I am so very sorry from the bottom of my heart.

Lena, you have a right to be feeling unsafe in your own home right now.  Most of us are here to give you the support you are looking for, to help. 

I suggest if someone can't do that, then please don't say anything at all.  That's not what this thread is for. 

Lena, I just saw this.  How awful.  I am so sorry!  I think you and maybe your children as well should see someone to talk about this.  Your fears are completely understandable, but you need to be able to sleep.  Have the police told you anything yet?

No, I'm dropping this now, but all I had to do was read this thread to feel anything about him, because I don't believe I've ever encountered him on this forum before (and no, I haven't only posted 50 times, I was here before the board change and just came back).

I erased my post, because I didn't mean to get anyone's panties twisted. I was honestly trying to lighten the thread a little bit (look how well that went for me!).

But Glenda's right. This thread shouldn't have turned into some big racial argument, and it sure shouldn't have turned into a debate about whether Billy's a jerk or not. I'm sorry I started that.

I really don't mind people discussing their point of views, I am always willing to hear and learn something from what they have to say. I don't think anyone here was trying to change anyones point of view but some got really cross when certain things were being mentioned.

I submit that the reason a disproportionate percentage of blacks are convicted of crimes is because they commit a disproportinate percentage of them.  There is no other logical explanation, that will stand up under close scrutiny.

Billy, your logic is flawed.  It could also be that the reason they are convicted more is that they are arrested more often.  We still have significant racial profiling in this country.  Thugs are thugs, regardless of what color or gender they come in, and should be dealt with according to the laws of the land in which they live and perpetrate their crimes.  Period. 

Lena, I don't give a rat's butt what color the dude was.  He was a jerk, plain and simple, for hurting you, taking your stuff, and making your kids afraid.  I'm sure that if he was desperate for drug money, he is already living a punishment of sorts.  That's a horrendous life, one that leads to disease, jail, death.  If the cops don't get him, something else will.

Through reading the past two pages I will request to stay off the race card, support your fellow forum member with good thoughts, prayers or well wishes.
 
Bad things happen to good people by bad people...the reasons are usually unclear or random.
