    Flying Advice? Help!

So Im going to be flying to Florida to visit an aunt on Monday and I have no clue how to handle DS, it will be his first time flying. I leave at 10 am and am there at 12:55pm. The absolute WORSE times for DS, unless I can trick him into going to sleep REALLY late and waking up REALLy early.

Does anyone have any tips? DS is a very good baby but Im afraid 3 hours in my lap will be too much for this boy who only wants to crawl around the floor.

Also, anyone know how to make all our clothes fit into one suitcase? I always pack way too much! lol

Ive got everything else dealt with. The house will be clean, Lizzie's crate will be up in my sisters room and I am making a list with specific feeding and grooming for Liz.

Please help, I want to make this trip a good one because next year we will probably be flying to Hawaii and I want him to behave!

I can't give you any advice about babies on planes, but I do find when packing that rolling up clothes tends to take up less space than folding them...(I'm a chronic over packer too). Or you could just get a bigger suitcase hehe

      Have fun on your trip![:)]

some kids get terrible pains in the ears with when on a plane...gaining altitude or landing...happens to big people to..

i might take some precautions here...call your pediatrician and ask about this, and how you can plan or prevent this..the doc may also have ideas about baby fliing..

as for packing, pack light, dont bring anything you absolutley dont need...keep any metal objects out...

    Good trip!

does he watch movies? I swear by the portable DVD player[:)

Headphones with music can entertain a bit, snacks are always a hit but beware of any that might cause diarreah or upset tummy's like raisins or apples.

Coloring materials if he's old enough to enjoy that...

He doesn't have his own seat? That REALLY helps a lot because you can give them the window and fence them in with your legs in the middle seat. Stay sitting because once they walk the aisle once they will wnt to do it OVER AND OVER again.

That's the hardest age I found to travel with them. Over 4 is great and before they are too mobile..infancy is the BEST time. I took Elias and Lily to Cali when Elias was maybe 4 days old...he slept on my knees the entire way! Lily was a bit of a handful....she was 2 then....we used the DVD player...worked quite well!

Mhad yes that's true....we used a pacifier for the 2y/o (a rare treat then!) for that. She was too young for gum. We gave the little boy a boob or bottle I forget which....lmao!

DS is 13, almost 14 months old and not walking yet (lazy boy!) Its hilarious because if you try to coax him he will plop his little butt on the floor and ignor you, but I have seen him willingly take almost 10 steps so I just let it go, he can walk when he wants!

I didnt think of asking for his own seat (probably because i'd have to pay and im taking advantage that hes not 2 yet) but now im thinking it would have been a great idea because when hes in his car seat he is oh so calm.

Im hoping I get an aisle seat, or maybe I can switch with someone so I can get up once in a while to take him to the bathroom and such, so he doesnt get bored sitting on my lap.

Lots of treats and lots of books, he loves to look a them!

What Mark said is very real.  When I was little... about 4 my ears gave me a TON of trouble on a flight.  I flew a lot when I was little but one time my ears hurt really bad.  I was a very good, quiet, well bahaved kid and this time I was screaming... my ear was bleeding.  I dont really remember... but I know it wasnt aything serious... just very painful.

I cant go very deep in the water.  Most people hold their nose and breathe (push) out and can pop their ears and release the pressure... well mine dont do that.  I guess its similar going up.  It never happened again tho.[&:]

Just to explain a little more... when I hold my nose a push out the air comes out in my eye, lol.  The inside of my eye, where you would get sleep in your eye... the air comes out there.  I can get fluid to shoot out (for show of course), and if its just the air you can hear it coming out.  DH was very impressed lol, jk.  I suppose the whole popping and releasing pressure needs to be air tight and apparently I dont have that.  Weird.  Funny story how I found that out.[&:]

Other than the ears... I would just say have lots of things to occupy him.[:)]
ETA:  Maybe sugar free candy that day.

My friend just left today on a plane to Oregon with her 20mo. daughter.  With the changes in security levels and such, she was concerned that they wouldn't be able to bring the portable DVD player that makes the flight so much easier on her daughter.  They called and found out that it was okay to bring it on.  Another friend flew last week and I don't think she was able to bring hers on board.

With all the laws now that has changed with flying not sure how you will go taking any food on with you, you can't take any liquids or gels make up nothing not even bottled water, everything has to be checked in not go carry on. I do know some people had their baby bag taken off them, so get to the airport early to get every thing checked out. they are so strict at the moment with every thing going on. I have just got back to Canada from Detroit and they where very strict.

From what I have heard on the news they cannot by law prohibit that you take anything for the baby (such as baby food, water for the milk etc.) Anyone who gets on my case will have to hear me out. How else do they plan on us keepng our babies nice and calm?

By the way Ive made a list of what I need to take (because all I could remember was to take clothes!) and im breaking my head open trying to figure out what to take DS.

They usually try to accomodate Moms with babies...you will probably find the stewardesses very helpful.  Ask for a seat in the front row, where there is more leg room.

Next time, order your tickets online, and you can pick your own seat.

I can't give much advice because i have never been on a plane myself. My kids have, they went on a small plane for a ride over our house. I was digging my nails into a chair.[&:]

What about gravol? I know you can give it to kids in case they get sick for car rides, so what about plane rides?  Plus I've heard Gravol makes them sleepy.

    Have a safe trip.

Ziploc bags are wonderful packing aids.  You should be able to fold a couple outfits for your son into one bag, kneel on it to push the air out and wala!  Nice tiny package.  The two gallon bags are great for larger items.  It's amazing how small clothing items will get when you press the air out of them.  Then, as an added bonus, you have bags for the dirty laundry so they don't have to be in with your clean stuff.  And, since they often search luggage, this prevents all your clean clothing from being handled by some stranger.  The BAGS are still getting handled, but at least your undies aren't getting touched by some wierdo who didn't wash his hands after the bathroom or blowing his nose or whatever.

As far as liquids for the baby, I'm guessing you're going to have to call the airline and let them know that you are traveling with an infant and that you will need whatever you need for him stocked on the airplane.  I can't see them taking EMPTY bottles away from you, but check on that as well.

Im going to stop by Walmart when I get off of work Glenda, I think its a wonderful idea  to put the clothes in Zip Lock bag, it will save a TON of room, because when I come back I will be bringing so much stuff back!

We are flying this weekend too, so I just printed out what you can/cannot bring.  I copied below what they are allowing for babies:

Baby formula and breast milk are allowed in your carry-on baggage or personal items. You can take these through the security checkpoints and aboard your plane. However, you must be traveling with a baby or toddler. All items including formula or breast milk will be inspected.
You or your baby or toddler will not be asked to test or taste breast milk or formula. Our Security Officers will not test or taste formula or breast milk.
You are allowed to bring gel or liquid-filled teethers.
Canned, jarred, or processed baby food is ;permitted in your carry-on baggage and aboard your plane.
Please note, that juice and all other liquids or gels are not permitted.
For information on creams, medicines, or other essential items for your child, please read our guidance on these items. [linkhttp://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/new-procedures.shtm]Guidance on New Security Procedures[/link]
Liquids and gels, including baby formula or breast milk, may be packed in your luggage and checked with your airline. You are encouraged to travel with only as much formula or breast milk needed to reach your destination.

Hope this helps and have a good trip!
