I know I should NOT laugh...

I know it isn't right, and certainly isn't nice to laugh at Jezebelle, but she has been so pathetically cute tonight. She was to have her ears cleaned, and thus a tranquilizer was given at 11:30 am. Her appointment at 1 pm - you couldn't even tell it. But at 4:30, she is stoned. I kept putting her on her bed, but she kept getting up. I have never seen a dog walk stiff legged with all four legs - I do wish I had a picture of that, but I did get a picture of her being pathetic - and stoned.

What a cute little thing. I am glad to know that my min pin isn't the only one that needs a tranquilizer to have something done. I will have to ask the vet about that! She is too cute for words!

She wouldn't have been so funny if she would just have stayed still! I didn't really want to laugh at her, but she made it soooo hard not to! Poor baby, we won't be doing tranqs again, not with this reaction.

For those of you who have used ACE with your dogs, did you get the same reaction? I thought it would have put her out like a light - but it just made her stagger around - and that was five hours after giving it to her. It may be a MinPin thing, or just a Jezebelle thing. Whatever it was, it wasn't safe, and it wasn't fun. Not with her running a fever last night, or vomitting in my lap at 5 am, or going 36 hours btwn bowel movements. Sarah, you might want to ask your vet if it is safe for Izzy. Trust me, as much as I laughed last night, I really wish I hadn't given it to her.

My non-epileptics have a similar reaction, with Ace. You have to just about triple the reccomended dose to totally knock them out (yes, yes, I have....). It makes them act like they're high for a few hours, and they typically end up acting ill before it's over with.

Emma just rolls over, and starts seizuring, as soon as it hits her bloodstream.

Needless to say, I don't use it any more. There are herbal products available for pets (like Ark Naturals Happy Traveler) but I generally just use human stuff to chill them out enough to get what needs to be done, done. They don't need chemical help for routine stuff, but when we were having roofwork done, they did. When we have to evacuate for hurricanes, they do. When Emma was attacked by a cat, and then a pack of dogs a month later, she needed some help to calm down, without seizuring. Stuff like that.... I use Rescue Remedy, Valerian, Scullcap, etc etc.
