My non-epileptics have a similar reaction, with Ace. You have to just about triple the reccomended dose to totally knock them out (yes, yes, I have....). It makes them act like they're high for a few hours, and they typically end up acting ill before it's over with.
Emma just rolls over, and starts seizuring, as soon as it hits her bloodstream.
Needless to say, I don't use it any more. There are herbal products available for pets (like Ark Naturals Happy Traveler) but I generally just use human stuff to chill them out enough to get what needs to be done, done. They don't need chemical help for routine stuff, but when we were having roofwork done, they did. When we have to evacuate for hurricanes, they do. When Emma was attacked by a cat, and then a pack of dogs a month later, she needed some help to calm down, without seizuring. Stuff like that.... I use Rescue Remedy, Valerian, Scullcap, etc etc.
