Need a spotted hound fix?

    Jen,
Yup, it's Terri.  He sounds like a great personality.  Would I  be correct in assuming that hounds are usually both human and dog pack oriented?  They get along well with most other dogs?  No much aggression issues?  (All generalizations I know, but looking for some generalizations)

Love the description....lots of outdoor energy and low indoor energy.  That would be my Nigel, but not Miss Sydney!!![sm=crazy.gif]

    Terri,

Hounds are VERY loyal to their pack leader (or human pack leader). I have met few beagles that don't get along with other dogs. I don't find them a bit aggressive toward people or other animals (except maybe rabbits). You can't ask for a better kids dog either.
    Here's a couple of mine.

    Roscoe is a handsome hound.

Roscoe used to get along great with all dogs. Not playful, but didn't get aggressive. He's still not aggressive, but he's definitely cranky. Doesn't suffer other dogs in his space these days.

Roscoe's excellent with kids, too. He used to be a major puller on leash to the point where I could do concrete skiijoring behind him. [8|]  But I let a friend's 3-year-old hold the leash  (while I was right there to grab it), and Roscoe was gentle and polite and didn't pull at all. Almost like he understood.  The kid and Roscoe ran all around the playground together on a loose-leash. And he seems to know whether a kid wants rough-housing or a gentle head in the lap.

kennel_keeper, your beagles are so cute! I love beagles. =)

    Thanks Jen

Here's my oldest trying to teach a foster a lesson or two, but I don't think they speak the same language, lol.

    Is that a lion cub?!
    • Gold Top Dog
Yes it is. I fostered two (brother and sister) for about 3 months a little over a year ago. My old Roxie was so good with them. Patient and caring. She taught them alot about acceptable behavior that their mom couldn't. What an experience!

Lion cubs???  Now that is ambitious!!!  My mom used to be the nursery keeper for a zoo and she got to raise a ton of baby animals when the mothers rejected them.  I don't think that she took them home though, hmmm...wonder what my two mutts would think about a baby lion in the house!!!  hahahahahahahahaaaa

Wow! What an experience. Do you have any more pictures to share in Photos for Sharing??[:D]

    PICTURES?? DO I HAVE PICTURE!
How else could I get people to believe me???? LOL.
It really was a great experience. I worked with exotic's (mostly large cats) at a facility near my home as a keeper. Part of the job (and because of my ongoing education) was to care for and socialize these little ones since they would have to be handled by humans their whole life.
I have also worked with wolves, New Guinea Singing Dogs, Caracols, Servals, Binterong, Tigers, Lynx, Bob Cat, Jungle cat, and a host of hybrid cats that USED to be pets. Most of these animals were "rescued" from bad situations. Some really sad cases.

The lion cubs (Calvin and Savik) were right at home here. They learned at of really valuable lessons. One lesson was, it hurts when you get butted by a goat with HORNS. lol

I will post more pic's on a different thread!

Jen,  he is so handsome!  You know, I never specifically noticed his light brown eyebrows before.  I can't possibly pick a favorite but I do love: the party hat, the nose and eyes shot, drool shot, all of the ones of he and Scout!

LOVE Roscoe pics!  I must bookmark your site...

Does Scout have a site too!?!?

I think you are an amazing photographer!  I really liked the picture you took of Roscoe from behind where he's sniffing - excellent!

Roscoe, Roscoe, Roscoe!!  My 2nd favorite houndie type dog.

Um, so does this mean we have to go to your site now if we want to see pictures of Roscoe or will you have mercy on us & still post them in here???  How lazy am I? ~LOL~

Thank you so much, jetty!!  Annie T - I'll still post Roscoe pics here. I was mostly just playing around with my new photoshop s/w. :)

I'm going to have to make Scout one, now. She's quite miffed that she wasn't the first album I made.
