Introducing myself and my K-9 Kids

I have posted a few times here and may have briefly introduced myself; however, I just found out that I should also introduce my crew.

I am a mobile groomer and am deeply involved in animal rescue. In the past I have worked with several local cat/dog organizations as well as operated my own small animal rescue called Pigpalooza! When I decided to close the doors to Pigpalooza!, I began a small breed dog "hospice" group where I take in and care for geriatric dogs who are homeless and just need a place to sleep, eat and be cared for until their time comes. I generally keep 4 at a time in addition to my own 3 dogs.

Here are photos and a little bit about my own 3 dogs:

This is Emili. I got her at 5 weeks old and she just turned 10 years old. At one time it was just me and her before we adopted the rest of the family (including my husband) so she is super special to me.

This is Ben. I adopted him on Emili's first birthday. He was 1 1/2 when I got him and he will be 11 yrs old this year. He is just a big mellow, laid back guy.

Finally, this is Marley. Last Cinco de Mayo (5/5/05) I found him nearly dead in one of my friend's front yard. He was covered in mats and open wounds. Flies were laying eggs in the wounds on his ear, so I scooped him up (along with about 500 flies) and put him in my car and rushed off to my vet. We worked for 4 hours to save his life. I shaved him while she cleaned and tended to his wounds. He had been attacked by multiple dogs and had rips and tears from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. He was completely dehydrated so badly that his tongue had dry dirt stuck all over it. I had to pull it out and wash it with a towel while he was still under. He was positive for both Tick Fever and Valley Fever. It took 3 days (with painkillers) before he could stand up on his own to walk outside. I am happy to say that he just recently finished medication for the Valley Fever and seems to be fully healed and finally healthy. He has lots of scars on his body to prove the rough life he had in the past, but he is doing great now and we absolutely adore him.

Hmmm...I don't know why my photos didn't work.

Any idea what I did wrong?

I guess for now, I will just have to post links.

Well, I cannot believe I am still awake, but since I am I figured I might as well keep trying at this.

This are my 4 current hospice dogs:

Molli is a 13 year old shih tzu. Her previous owner was her breeder who originally had good intentions, but eventually stopped taking proper care of her dogs. At the time there were 4 of them so I brought them all home with me. They ranged in age from 11 to 18. Over the past couple years the older ones passed on and just Molli remains from that group. She has severe skin problems that were ignored during her first 11 years of life, so it is a constant struggle, but we have made major progress and she is living much more comfortably these days.[sm=happy.gif]

This is Griffin. He was dropped off at my vet's office to be put to sleep when his owner had to move into a nursing home. My vet convinced them to let her find him a new home instead of euthanizing him which is how he came to live with me. He was 12 at the time and is 14 now. He has completely lost his vision to glaucoma, but is doing great otherwise.

Peli is a little Bichon who spent the first 7 1/2 years of his life locked up in a plastic airline crate. He was let out twice a day to eat and potty. Very sad existence. I finally convinced his owner to let him live with me where he no longer has to be crated at all. I got him in December and he just turned 8. I keep his hair shorter than this nowadays, but I love it when he is all fluffy.

Finally, this is Little Ricky. He just came to stay with us about a month ago. He was turned into my vet's office as a stray. She noticed that he had severe dental decay and ended up pulling 12 teeth. Shortly after his surgery, he had an all out massive heart attack while one of the kennel techs was taking him outside. She was able to save him, but due to his very snappy behavior she wasn't able to place him into a home, so he came here. I have absolutely no idea how old he is. We are working on his behavior and he is doing great.

I hope you all have enjoyed my kids and their stories. It is nice to share them with other dog lovers. Sorry I cannot seem to get the photos to post properly.

Thanks Jennie. I got the final 3 up after you posted.

Are there photos of your pups on here? I would like to see the one you are planning to color.

Emma is a 2 1/2 year old Jack Russell Terrier. I've gotta wait til a little spot of demodex on her chest heals before I color her, but I'm starting to get a good idea of what I want to do, and how, and getting it all figured out:)

Oh, BTW, the way to post photos here is weird, LOL.

At the bottom left of the posting screen, it says "Click here to upload" You click that and get the photo from your PC. I reduce mine to 25%, or they won't upload. Then, you have to check the box that says, "Embed picture in post."

Emma is adorable. Is your other dog a doxie? I was actually going to the pound to look for a doxie the day I found Marley. He surely isn't a doxie, but he stole my heart.

Thanks for the info about posting photos. That explains my problem. I tried the "Embed picture in post" option, but each time it came up saying it was unable to do it. I don't know how to reduce the photo. I have a Mac and no real photo software. I'll have to mess around with it to see if I can figure something out.
