Hiking today in the White Mtns w/our new addition!... warning pic heavy

Taking a breather... we were hiking canicross style and since she's a sled dog I used the commands and she pulled me up, and down the whole mountain!

From left ti right, snickers, oliver, me, Khoale

    Khoale... love her already

Wow, beautiful! That also looks very intense. Are the belty leash things just so you don't have to hold leashes in your hands as you hike? Or is there some sort of "rig" that does something extra?

Ooh, she's so cute! I love her sketchy ears in the photo of the two of you.

Cita - I wear a padded belt that sits on my hips, some people use leg loops, they are used for Canicross (dog assisted pulling) hiking and skijoring, in addition a bungee is attached to the leash line which is connected to the harness. This is so that the shock can be absorbed and it is a smooth hike. Having hiked this way, hands free and "assisted" by the dog :) there is no way I'd go back to any other way. My young black lab Oliver hikes off leash reliably, I do attach my other dog Snickers in a similar way to restrain her since it is so convenient, but she does not pull, she just walks along behind Khoale, due to arthritis. Oh, and you probably also see the extra line that I have attached to the loop as well for when we pass people or get to teh top so I can easily just snap Oliver on as well.

Ihearthuskybutts - yeah the ears, I think she's thinking, "dude I'm a working dog, you don't HUG a working dog... sigh"

Neat! I had no idea such a sport/activity existed, though it certainly makes sense to do it. The things you don't learn growing up in Southern California... [:)]

So... think I could try this Canicross business with my papillon? [:D]

That really looks like fun, just a little to cold for me.[:D]

Cita.. with a Pap, i think you need to go get a Siberian, sew a soft bolstered pillow on to the harness, put the pap in it and let him/her rider like a queen/king :)... canicross style of course lol.
Or... you could train the Pap to pull a little pint sized sled... heck someone once entered a team of poodles into the Iditarod, why not paps? ...grin...
Janobono...It is a great workout... the dog assist get me walking faster and longer :)
Bevolasvegas... cold? well it was a beautiful as it gets for snow hiking... I was out for full days dog sledding this winter below zero so that hike felt like summer :)

I had the first/second pics up on my screen and David walked by.  "Remember that poor little sick dog that had such a terrible time with pneumonia and congestion and then immediately after had to have surgery on both hips??"

    David said "Wasn't that Oliver???"

I grinned and said "yeah -- secone from the left -- one of your 'nephew' dogs *grin*"

YOU, my friend, are not just doing 'something' right -- you are doing a LOT of things right!!!

(except voluntarily being out in all that silly white stuff -- ahhh give me good old Floor-da sunshine and hurry-canes any day!! LOL)

Brilliant white snow, bright sunny skies, envigorating crisp temperatures . . . . oh, how I miss my New England winters!  Beautiful photos of all of you, and what tremendous shape you must all be in.

I'm someone who recently discovered hiking on trails and really love it.  That looks like something I might also enjoy as I get more experienced.  And, Willow would have no trouble with the temps.  Great pictures!
Here's to livin' life to the fullest with dogs by your side[sm=dance.gif]

wow that looks like soooo much fun. Bailey loves the snow, but I dont think he could handle that. His short fur doesnt do to much to keep him warm. I bet you're dogs didnt mind to much though, they probably love it. One of my cousins has a husky(or a mal,.. i cant remember which) and she LOVES the snow.
