my skinny girl

    my skinny girl

I finally got miya weighed at petsmart this week and she really surprised me.  she weighed 51.5 lbs, and i thought she weighed more than that!  she's only about 8 months old so i don't know how much growing she's got left in her but i thought she'd get bigger considering her breeds (husky/gsd).
here's my girl at the park

i don't know why but looking at these particular pictures she looks so tiny lol

She looks good, not too thin.  The Husky/GSD we had weighed far less then I thought (he ran between 50-55 pounds).  That thick coat can be deceiving

If you think about it, both GSD and husky's can be on the smaller, petite side. And often times mixes never get as large as their parents, so I think it's 55lbs is a decent size for a GSD/husky mix. Of course, if she's only 8 months she's still got a couple good months of growing left doesn't she?

If you check the standard....Sibes get to 60lbs and that's the TOP weight mentioned and should apply to males....females go anywhere fom 35-50lbs. I think the racing dogs/crossbreds are even lighter at times.

I don't consider Sibes a large breed tho many are oversized esp BYB breds very tall and leggy when they should be more low on the leg and solid in body.

    She looks great!

If her behavior is typical (energy and active which is to be expected for her heritage and age) then there is nothing wrong.  Obesity is a MAJOR problem in dogs and most folks (JQP) keep their dogs too heavy.  Keeping your dog lean throughout their lives is the best option, especially if there are any skeletal or joint issues that may impact her in the future.

I have a 13 year old orthopedic mess of a GSD who is between 83 and 86 pounds and the vet swears that his weight is one of the reasons he is still around today; and two belgians who will never break 60 pounds.

Miya's a doll.  My GSD is skinnier than her.  She weighs more 'cause she's bigger, but she's a stick.  Picky eater.  Miya looks good to me.

Well, she looks happy and healthy[;)]

I think she looks fine as well!  That first pic makes her look like a cat.  I guess I should say that's a typical cat behavior, batting at a ball.  heh... usually a ball of yarn!

she does that all the time, she'll bat her paw at a ball or her bone but especially when she sees bugs outside she just paws at them it's so funny.

she does have a thick coat so it's very deceiving.  and we're at the dog park for about 2 hours almost every day so she's very active.

She looks in great shape and does not look skinny to me.  I have a husky/lab mix, and he is healthy at 52 lbs.  Huskies are not big dogs (as someone posted, bitches can be as small as 35 lbs.), and also they do not run to fat at all -- they stay naturally lean, and in fact typically will self-regulate food to match their activity level.

She looks great and doesn't appear to be thin at all. She weighs more then Blue  who is also a gsd/husky mix and his last weight in was 37lbs he's 3 yrs. old were slowly adding weight on.

I don't think she looks skinny...you wanna see skinny, take a look at Kaiser. He's really long and only weighs like 86 lbs.
