Wolves!! :)

    Wolves!! :)

I finally got through sorting/resizing the 1000 pictures I took (in 2 hours!) on my wolf trip this past Sunday!  It was such an amazing trip...a lot of driving, but so worth it.  It was specifically for photographers so we spent the whole time rotating to different pens.  There were about 10 other photographers besides me and my dad as well as a few staff members...so it was a pretty small group.  The staff members had dog treats they'd throw out to the wolves to get them closer to us, though they tended to hang around pretty close anyways.  They were right up against the fence staring at us!  It was probably one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced...I've always been a wolf lover but never seen them closely in person really until now...and I can tell you that pictures do them no justice.  You can't tell from pictures how they move...constantly weaving back and forth with their piercing eyes trained right on you like they're boring holes right into you.  It's really an experience...  they are so intense!!  We were so close we could have reached down and patted them on the head (though we had been asked not to) and when we looked through the slots in the fence, there was nothing between them and us.  I was often leaning into the pen so I was directly above them...it was so amazing.  But anyway.  On to the pictures :)  I took 1000, but managed to wittle the batch down to 228 good ones.

Unfortunately it was a very gray day so a lot of my pictures came out blurry cause these animals NEVER stop moving. [:(]

Here are some pics of my that my dad took while I was totally entranced with these critters...

(just so you get the idea of how close we were [;)])

The first pen we were at was the Arctic wolf pen.  They were POOFY.  Like big marshmallow wolves [:)]  And very wary.

    More comin'...

The next pen was a pack of gray wolves...

See that wolf on the right in that picture?  He was SUCH a character.  He had such a heavy browline which made him look extremely depressed the entire time.  It was so sad!!  I have nicknamed him Emo Wolf  [;)]

Emo Wolf on the right.  Another wolf I tagged as Silver Eyes on the left.

    (flat face!)

    Emo Wolf and Silver Eyes.

    Again.

    Oh Emo Wolf...cheer up...

    SADNESS.

    A shy wolf.

    Those eyes...

This guy was so great...check out the snaggle tooth!

This wolf had such an interesting face.  Very slender.

    Emo.  [:(]

Now on to the next pen.  This one had a pair of white wolves, a gray wolf, and a really shy black one named Shiloh.

Shiloh was really hard to get pictures of because he wouldn't come near us.

This girl had gotten in a fight recently and had scratches/scabs on her.  She had a big wound on her flank, but she was on antibiotics and it's healing.

Well the site got a little huffy when I tried to upload more...so I think I'll try to keep it short.  Gah that's hard though!  Here are my favorites from the last pen.  There were 2 dark gray wolves and 2 black ones.  The really old black one is 13 yr old Midnight...I loved him.

    ...Its in NJ right,...

I thought those were pics from the the Lakota Wolf Preserve.  Even tho it really isn't all that far from us, I haven't been there yet, but I've seen a lot of pictures.  Our youngest went there with his class about 7 years ago, and a lot of local Scout troops go there.  If anyone is interested, here's their website link:
