Shaq's coat color

• Shaq's coat color karin Posted : 8/10/2006 3:04:28 PM Someone asked me earlier about Shaq's color. I did not want to go too off topic on that thread, so I posted here. Shaq is reg. as white and red with a black mask. AKC gives several options for saints, but none of them fit Shaq very well. I just did the best I could when filling out AKC papers.   DH and I refer to Shaq as "piebald" which means white with irregular patches of color. His mask is really a deep choc brown, not black.(But he does have black nose and freckles) Shaq's spots are a reddish-orange on a white coat. He has speckles of the same color on his forelegs. We suspect that Shaq's coat color could be a fault, but since he is pet quality I could care less. It's the lumpy, droopy dog I love, on the inside that counts. []  And being his Mommy, I of course think he is beautiful on the outside as well.   Here's Shaq.... • micksmom Posted : 8/10/2006 3:13:55 PM He's beautiful!  After reading the AKC standard, I think his color might be called splash.    Color White with red or red with white, the red in its various shades; brindle patches with white markings. The colors red and brown-yellow are of entirely equal value. Necessary markings are: white chest, feet and tip of tail, noseband, collar or spot on the nape; the latter and blaze are very desirable. Never of one color or without white. Faulty are all other colors, except the favorite dark shadings on the head (mask) and ears. I always think of  mantel as the typical saint coat, and splash is a little less then mantle. For some reason piebald just strikes me as a really good way of describing Shaq. His coat seems like its even less color then splash. It's just my opinion (and a very poor one at that) because I really have very little experience with using the correct show terms for coats. Shaq at 10 weeks 2. Shaq at 3 weeks (the breeder took the last picture, and I spent weeks drooling over Shaq before he came home. (I was luring him out with a treat. He of course thought he should get a treat, and stay inside. Thus the sad face.) The next one is Shaq in the backyard. #3 is Shaq with Marley in the background. #4 is my hand next to Shaq's paw. As you can see, his paw is huge. • Susan Robertson Posted : 8/10/2006 6:33:24 PM It was ME!!!  I just love the look of Shaq.  He is quite the unique looking Saint and very striking.  Both of your Saints are great, but then again, I LOVE Saints and would take any of them in any color!!
