Jackie you know you are both in my heart and mind

Another insane week behind me. Super proud of what I was able to achieve this past week, so although I was exhausted I was feeling great on my way home last night.

So after eating B was so hyped I took him for a walk and he WAS SO HAPPY BECAUSE THERE WERE A ZILLION KIDS!!!  He did super well even though at times he was swarmed by costumed kids - fortunately he has never thought anything was odd about people in costumes

Doug I love hearing about Sky's progress. I've finally got my friend's GSP working in the field and it is so fascinating to watch genetics at work

Happy to report that B had a good vet visit regarding his lumps - one they aspirate they sent to the lab but all the others - despite them thinking otherwise - turned out to be additional fatty lumps.

I think it was 80 on Wednesday and I don't think today hit 50! Very windy and some rain so darn nasty. Had over 8 inches of snow in the NC mountains today.

OK off to read a book or something, sadly I am sure I'll be asleep very soon

Lots of wind here, though I did manage to get Miss Mozey out. I thought we were just going out for a quick trip out so she could go potty--nope, she decided a long walk would be a good idea. Ronnie is up for anything, so he went on the walk, too.

Tina, thanks for posting the chicken casserole recipe! I'm going to make it Monday.

They say we might see a few flakes of snow here, too, but, more is expected north of us. I am not ready!

Doug, my crew will be there to join Junior at the WMA--especially if there's something dead for rolling!

Continued prayers and good thoughts for Jackie and Charles, and Callie.

It is snowing here. Seems way too early for that!

    • Gold Top Dog

Thankfully, we got none.  However, this morning the wind was so fierce that I thought the birches would topple.  My grill, which is large and connected to a full propane tank, was actually blown about 3 feet across the deck.  Was really surprised to see that the wind was strong enough to move something that heavy.

Good thoughts and prayers continuing for Callie, Jackie and Charles.  Fortunately, two weeks later, I'm pretty much finally ok.  The ribs still feel like a too tight bra most of the time, and now and then it feels like an under-wire poked me, and the lower back complains now and then, but I can function normally, so that's good enough!

The possible snow season in MN is 150 days long.  You are running out of time to get apples.

These are the remnants of the edible crab apples.  About half of them are gone.  These actually froze last night, as did the fish pond and bird baths.

We have a few honey crisp left, but they also froze and are mushy.  Beautiful apples to look at, but done.

Sky just demonstrated poor judgement, but he is a pup.  Wind took a pile of leaves down the street, with him trying to catch them.  Me coming right behind him calling him in Old Germanic.  He knew he was wrong, especially after I carried him to the kennel and put him in it.  Really offended him.  He was doing so good walking at heel off leash, then the brain turns off.  He has a long zip line and a fence will be growing soon.  Positive reinforcement works, but takes a while.

Town had a football game Halloween night.  Limited the attendance at the houses.  We have a nine man team, but very enthusiastic supporters.  One little kid showed up as a robot.  Boxes, covered with foil, a few cutouts, and lots of blinking lights.  Kid could barely walk.  Father had to lift him up the steps

I can't blame Sky for wanting to just take off and romp in the leaves.  So often, the fallen leaves here are soggy and wet, so you don't get that crunchy sound and unique "leaf smell" when you walk in them.  On the rare occasions when the leaves on the sidewalks and in the neighborhood streets are dry, I will go out of my way to walk through them, just because I love that sound!

That crab apple tree looks like it could topple over with the weight of those apples, Doug. They look like beautiful dark plums!

Karen, so glad to hear that Bugsy's vet check-up went well and that his lumps are just the harmless "old-man" lumps some dogs get.  I bet the trick-or-treaters loved seeing him as much as he loved seeing them.

Ruby did okay on Halloween.  We had about 80 kids come to the door.  DH kept her on leash and stood back a little from the doorway.  She barked and roo-rooed at several of them.  Funny how you can tell which kids like dogs and which don't:  some got their candy and got the heck off the doorstep when they heard/saw her, others lingered and said something like, "Hi, doggie!" or "Your dog is cute!"  She was a bit stressed, so we were glad to turn off the lights and call it a holiday before 8pm!

Saw the snow falling in Foxboro, MA earlier this morning on the pre-game football coverage.  Sounds like game time will be cold and very windy, but the field is clear.  Definitely seems a bit early for you New Englanders!

Again I'm doing well  -- they took my staples out but the incision is a tad weak yet *grrr* soooooo I'm behaving (how bor-rinnngggg!).   I'm working at home tho -- the first week of the month are reports and those are due hernia or no .... so am working from home which is never my preference.  Then I feel like I can never get away from work!

My folks got snow last night in Jamestown, NY -- and it was down to 45 last night near Orlando.  It was a "Three Dog Nite" with Luna, Tink AND Charlie all wanting not just IN bed but in between David and I ... LOL.

Glenda .. glad you're doing well ... and Jackie & Mr. Jackie still on my prayer list.

    • Gold Top Dog

Callie, good to hear from you.  I'm sorry the incision is still keeping you behaving -- sending some incision strengthening vibes (let us know when you start misbehaving)!!

Boy, 45 in Orlando --- people will be donning their wool hats and gloves!

Forgot to say that I'm glad you're feeling more like yourself each day, Glenda.  I know rib injuries can take ages to completely heal.

I just dropped by to check on everyone.  It looks like I missed some stuff.  Jackie has tried to keep up with me, as posting here has been difficult.  My computer at home has not worked great since I have been off..  Glenda and Callie sounds like you have been battling health issues too.  Of course Jackie and Charles have been in my prayers so I will add Callie and Glenda as well.  We are finally on the mend here.  I go for my checkup this week and should find out if I can go back to work.  Ron's checkup is next week to see if all the meds he is taking is working like we hoped.

I miss you guys, hope everyone is safe from the weather, looks like old man winter is starting early.

    • Gold Top Dog

Gosh, it's good to see you back!  I'm doing a lot better, just will know better than to lean down to take the trash out again.

good to 'see' you Gin! Glad you are doing OK and that your DH is too Real cold here this morning - upper 20's! beautiful sunshine though so it's fine I am still running virtual training - it will be nice to see learners again in the future LOL

    • Gold Top Dog

So good to "see" you, Ginger!  We've been grateful for Jackie's updates throughout your recovery.  I hope you and your husband are back to your usual selves very soon.  I'm sure you're ready to go back to work even part-time; being home feels good for a while, but eventually your body and your mind feel ready to tackle some of the old routine!

Karen, I saw some coverage on the news last night about the cold temps and snow in parts of NC and thought of you.  But as you said, with bright sun, it is definitely okay.  Oddly, my mother didn't get any bad weather, despite being less than a couple hours from parts of MA that had some nasty winds and some snow.

Could take a few days to adjust to the time change this week.  I'm not wild about how early darkness falls, but I do like the light earlier in the morning.  I can't believe we're into November already!

    • Gold Top Dog

Hey Ginger! Hope things are okay with you.

We had a Nor'easter and snow on Halloween. Trick-or-treating was a bust.

Last night I clipped Missy's and Oscar's nails. It was Oscar's first time since he came to live with me. He was not happy. The funny thing was is that I had a friend holding him and giving him treats while I was cutting the nails and Oscar was eating them, but hissing and screaming every other mouthful. No humans or cats were actually hurt during the process.

I see the forum is full of old threads that people decided to reply to. It's too bad there isn't a way to lock the ancient threads so people could view them but not post to them. It'd be a lot less messy IMHO.

    • Gold Top Dog

Not sure where the rest of my post went.....

Ginger, I'm glad both of you are on the mend, and it really IS good to have you popping in.

Tina, sorry you had a bum Halloween.  That's really too bad for the kids, not to mention all the adults with stashes of candy they have to "get rid of" now.  I know what would happen in my house.

    • Gold Top Dog

Tina - yes, sorry the weather kinda spoiled Halloween.  I'm also marveling at your bravery in the face of toenail duty -- you get my vote for Super-Mom of the year.  I'm a total wuss at dog nails, much less kitty ones.  (why can I do all sorts of gnarly things like anal glands and toenails make me into over-warm jello!)

Ginger -- I'll add you and Ron also to my prayer list.

Glenda -- I get it.  oh I soooooooo get it.  Turning 60 was E ... Z .... in July.  However, having a Dad who turned 90 in August?  Not  EZ ... He's not one bit more than the 30 years older than me that he has ALWAYS been ... so why the heck does having a Dad who is 90 now make me feel decrepit??  It's mental ... (so that makes ME .... mental??  Yep ... it probably fits at this point LOL).

Florida probably had the coldest Nov 1 & 2 on record.

I worked at home today for about 5 hours.  YAY -- without a problem.  Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have my "sit up" time extended enough so going back to work will be a relief.
