    Weekly chat 8-18-14

I guess it's my turn to start this week's chat thread.

    Ready, set, GO!

On the bike ride to work this morning, I saw a lady out walking a GSP puppy. Karen, you were the first person I thought of. Cuteness overload!

    Ready, set, GO!

Oh, no . . . that makes me feel like I need to start running or moving at a faster pace than I'm capable today.  Too much pressure, Jackie!  Wink

I'm feeling  more sluggish than usual for a Monday because DH has a nasty head cold, and his already-annoying level of snoring was ramped up several notches due to his stuffy nose. So, I got very little sleep last night.

My friend and I saw a movie yesterday -- "Boyhood."  It was good, although a little long.  Unlike any movie I've ever seen (or has ever been done, as far as I know).  It follows a couple children and their divorced parents over 12 years, and it was filmed a little bit each year.  So, the actors age as time progressed, and it was fascinating to see the boy and girl go from about ages 6 and 8 to ages 18 and 20.  Just a series of stories that happened during the family's lives, different milestones -- some major, some minor, but all realistic and part of what shapes each of them.

It must be weird for the kids to see themselves age like that in a condensed 2-hour time period.  The parents aged, too, but since they were already adults at the start of filming, it was less drastic.  The parents were played by Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke.  It was a little poignant to see him -- I've been seeing clips of "Dead Poets Society" for days since Robin Williams' death, and Ethan Hawke was so young and new to the industry then.  Anyway, it was an enjoyable movie.

I all, back at work today... 5 more working days until my vacation :)

Hope all is well, miss seeing you guys!

    • Gold Top Dog

I hope you're able to sleep tonight Tracy.  It's no fun to be kept awake by hubby's snoring; I have the same problem. I saw that movie advertised yesterday and it looked interesting; glad you liked it.

Ginger; I hope the week goes by quickly. I'm sure you're looking forward to a vacation, especially after being so busy with the move.

    Oh Tina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh, snoring and generally sleep disturbing husbands!! Last night DH woke up and then couldn't get back to sleep - well that of course meant I couldn't either. DH despises when I start sighing - which is my legitimate attempt to destress and fall asleep. I cannot tell you how funny it was when I was lying there wanting to sigh and instead Bugsy did. Multiple times. It was all i could do to not laugh hysterically. Eventually DH got up all in a huff because I was intolerant of his fidgeting.
So that is how the day started. I'd like to say the day got better, you know what, it did, even though work is a bit of a stress filled scheduling nightmare at the moment.

hmmm that's it I suppose...............except Tina!! why didn't you steal it and send it to me!! At least tell me what it looked like

    • Gold Top Dog

Lol love the story of busy sighing when you couldn't. I would have died laughing!

Someone stop. Me from killing the people above my hotel room. First the sound like elephants stomping around. Now they are hanging out on their balcony. This better not go on long because I just spent 10 hrs in a car plus 4 hrs working once I got to the hotel. I need sleep before I do it all over again.

I'm really missing my dogs today.

    Here you go Karen:

The puppy I saw looked like the liver guy on the right, with the white muzzle and little white line going up between the eyes. He had lots of spots on him, like this picture. I estimate that the puppy was about 12 - 15 weeks old. He kept picking up what appeared to be a paper towel and the lady walking him kept taking it away. They got about 2 feet from it and he ran back and grabbed it again. Then he heard me riding by and he turned to watch me, ears perked forward, paper towel still in his mouth.

At lunch time yesterday when I was leaving to go home, another young woman was walking a Corgi puppy. Lots of cuteness everywhere on a Monday.

Oh my doG, that photo is so cute!  I can just imagine his obsession with the paper towel.

Julie, I hope you got some rest without any further disturbances from obnoxious "neighbors" upstairs.  I hate that kind of thing.  It only adds to my existing problems with concentration and insomnia.  I lived in apartments growing up with rude neighbors like that.  My Mom has an upstairs neighbor like that now, and it drives me insane when I go visit her.  Some people just don't care how their actions might affect those around them.

Speaking of sleep disturbances, DH didn't snore as much last night.  I didn't fall asleep right away, but once I did, I only woke up once briefly, so that's an improvement.

Tonight I'm going to a class at our local shelter about canine body language.  Just for people, no dogs will be there.  I'm sure it's stuff I've read or seen before, but the fee was cheap, and I thought it would be a nice refresher.  It'll be interesting, so I'm bound to learn something new.  DH will probably miss it since he's coughing and sneezing enough to be a distraction!

Re: DHs snoring-has he been checked for a sleep disorder?

Signed the gremlin up for obedience training.  I've been working on it right along, but having the class makes me focus better.  I started with a clicker but made the mistake of only buying one.

Start out with general obedience, then move to off-leash obedience.  He is growing up.  20lbs yesterday.  Took him to a picnic and he behaved well.  Better than some kids.

GSP puppies are so cute and Corgi pups. Most puppies are cute which is why they survive to be adults. :)

Julie, sorry you had clomping around people upstairs.

Tracy, that class sounds fun.  I think the entire class would be grateful if you kept your sneezy DH at home. lol You can summarize for him when you get home.  Glad you got some decent sleep last night. My hubby hasn't been sleeping well for the last couple of months. He's awake at 3 or so and often can't get back to sleep.  He usually gets up and gets on the computer in the spare bedroom. He's nice enough to make the coffee and has a cup ready for me when my alarm goes off. Rex goes in and lets him know my alarm went off. :)  I feel bad that he's having trouble sleeping. Sleep is so restorative, at least for me.

Gin, nice to see you. :)

Tonight is Belle's nose work class. She didn't feel good yesterday and had some diarrhea. She didn't want to eat this morning but did eat a little bit. I'm not sure what's going on but I wish she'd feel better. I may have to take her to the vet if this keeps up any longer. She's also sometimes hacking like she has something stuck in her throat. I am not googling that because I'm sure I'll freak out if I do. I guess If she's not feeling good when I get home I won't take her to class.

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh, I hope Belle feels better soon.

The chipmunk is now taking nuts right out of my hand and DS;s.  He and the squirrel have us well trained.

Went to see the Beach Boys in concert last night.  Really a great time.  We had lawn seats so took a blanket, a picnic and a nice wine.

On a more somber note, the family of Todd's boss has been asked to make the heartbreaking decision to take the wife and mother off life support.  They tried a couple times over the weekend to take her off the vent and she crashed both times.  They say there is absolutely no chance of meaningful survival.

Please consider composing an advanced directive.  This can save your family the agony of making this decision on your behalf.  I've had one since my neck surgery wayyyyy back, and update it regularly.

    • Gold Top Dog

Isn't It crazy how these old bands keep going out on tour? Some are still pretty good and some, not so much. lol Sounds like a nice time Glenda. I'm sorry about Todd's boss' wife and his mother??  I must have missed your earlier post. Were they in an accident?  What a terrible decision to make.

    • Gold Top Dog

Glenda, I hope Todd's boss's wife's passing is as peaceful as possible.  Wishing strength for him and their extended family.  What a tough decision to have to make as a family.

Advanced directives are important.  We've been in the process of updating our wills and those related documents.  It's not a pleasant process overall, but having them done will make me feel better.

On a lighter note, the concert sounds fun -- I saw the Beach Boys many moons ago . . . I think in the mid 1980's.  Before the show started, the crowd was tossing beach balls.

Doug, I'm sure Sky will be a pro at the classes.  Jackie, I hope Belle feels well enough for class tonight.  Digestive issues sure can be puzzling if you don't know of anything the dog ate that could cause upset.

Sleep IS restorative.  I have a theory about why some people seem to age so much better than others:  they are really well rested.  My sister has done many things "wrong" related to aging well (she smokes, has worshipped the sun and tanning beds all her life, etc.).  Yet, she looks great at age 45.  I think it's because she's never had a job where she has to get up early in the morning.  Her career allows for very flexible hours, so she gets plenty of sleep.  I've had an alarm go off at 5am - 6am all my adult life, and no matter what the experts say, I do not go to bed at 9pm.  So, I'm chronically sleep deprived!

Oh, Doug asked about DH having sleep apnea.  I keep telling him he needs to have a sleep test, but getting him to do that will be tough.  I'll keep nagging him because I think it's important (for his sake, not just mine!).
