    Sunny Sunday chat

    Good Morning all!

    Absolutely beautiful morning.

We managed to get a lot of yard work done yesterday, including pruning back that poor rose bush.  It looks healthy and happy now without all the dead wood on it, and as a bonus, we can actually use the side door of the house without being attacked.  I say "we" but basically, I directed and the guys did the work.  I could get used to that! Devil

The gardens here are really lovely and they'd been well weeded before we moved in since they were so overgrown, but the guy weeded and didn't tackle trimming back bushes and the roses.  The poor gardens had been badly neglected and were horribly overgrown and over run with weeds.  We're really fortunate that the homeowner loves to garden because as much as I enjoy the various flowers, I've never learned much about them, or how to plant so that there is always color so we wouldn't have much in the way of landscape if it were up to me.  I have no problem keeping the beds weeded and doing the deadheading, but figuring it all out?  Scarey stuff!!

Beautiful weather like we've been having makes me just want to stay outside.  I am so enjoying our deck.  It's quite large and it's like having an extra room.  Most of my herbs have moved outside for the summer and I'm harvesting and drying like crazy.  Seems really early to be doing that, but I'm sure not going to complain.  Obviously, fresh is best, but some herbs just don't like being grown inside and won't last the winter so at least I have my backup for the cold months.

Amazing what a change of address can do for the attitude!

Hope everyone else is enjoying nice weather and has a wonderful day!

Nice day here too but probably hotter than most people find enjoyable.  There is a nice breeze and the occasional cloudy spell to help keep things not so miserable.  We really haven't had any super hot weather yet but it's coming soon I'm sure.

Finished up the yard work this morning.  It's been a lazy kind of weekend for the most part.

I bought some fresh corn and plan to grill them with some burgers this evening.  We've eaten all the ripe tomatoes and now we have to wait for the next ones to be ready to eat.

Nothing terribly exciting here today.  DH got home last night, and after a joyful reunion, Ruby was a happy, healthy pup again.  I think he felt kind of bad that I had to deal with the hiccup of her belly troubles, so he got me a thank you card from Ruby that said, "Thanks, Mom, for taking good care of  me while Dad was away!"

Can't remember if I said I've also been fish-sitting our neighbors' betta fish for a few days.  I feel so bad for the poor thing.  It's in a small plastic bowl with nothing but some glass marbles on the bottom and a cheap, plastic plant that mostly floats on the top.  His fins are nearly gone (my neighbor just said, "Oh, he lost some fins, so he swims funny."   Of course, I've been reading about bettas online this weekend, and it says they must have natural plants or silk plants, otherwise their fins tear on the rough/sharp edges.    Well, obviously that's what must have happened to this poor little guy.

It also said they like a little hideaway space, like a castle or cave thing.  He just lies on the bottom of the bowl on the marbles, with nothing around him.  I've been debating all weekend going to the pet store and buying him some improvements, but I know that would be overstepping my fish-sitting duties.  This is the neighbor who tried to poison the squirrels, and we had to advise him against it.  His kids love Ruby and animals, but he clearly hates all critters, so my guess he allowed the fish but spent a maximum of $5 or $10 to get them a "pet."  Poor little fish.  :-(

Just came back from buying my MIL a power recliner.  She insists on a firm back, upright chair but now spends most of her time in bed because she needs to keep her feet up.  She didn't want a motorized one because she says she can handle a manual one (she's very cheap and won't pay for the power ones).  Well, DH, SIL, and I all tried out several today and agree she does NOT have the strength for a manual one.  We bought the power one and plan to tell her it's her Christmas and BD gifts if she gives us any flak!

I would go get the poor fish some upgrades and tell the guy you were bored and had fun shopping for new fish digs. Poor fish!

It has been a somewhat lazy weekend here too. I told myself the next weekend I was home I would pull weeds. Do you think I did? Nope! I just keep looking at my weeds and thinking ugh.  I just don't want to do it! Instead I did other things like laundry, cleaning dusting and watching TV. Oh and I went to yoga class for the first time in weeks. That felt awesome

The dogs got groomed yesterday and they are so soft and fluffy. I just want to snuggle with them for days haha.

Julie, I'd say you were very productive if you dusted, cleaned, and did laundry!  The weeds will wait for you.

i didn't read your post until after the kids picked up their fish this afternoon, otherwise I would've taken your suggestion.  Your phrase, "shopping for new fish digs" really cracked me up!  I think I'll buy a couple things and wrap them up with a card from Ruby saying, "Thanks for being my buddy this weekend," or something like that.  Yeah, it's being wimpy and passive, instead of just talking to them about what they might do, but I'm more comfortable with the indirect approach.

i really want to get back to a yoga class.  It's the only exercise I've ever enjoyed.

well I have to post a retraction - after the soggy, gray, miserably humid start to our day yesterday it slowly cleared and remained dry. Today I woke up to 61*, I opened all the windows and the garage and was thrilled to be cool.

It stayed dry all day and wasn't terribly hot or at least didn't feel it.

I took B for his first little ride in the new car today, he approves LOL

He cannot stand or sit up but he did discover that he can see out the front and the back and the sides while lying down. This pleased him.

We went down to the fields and found out the are draining the lake, actually a local town is taking water from it. I am trying to stay positive in that it will keep some large and/or speedy boats away but there is already litter along the banks. I hate litter.

I did a bunch of cleaning today and did a bit more yard work. There is just so much to do in every direction I look. At least some things are done now.

Tracy I think the card from Ruby for the fish is a good  idea.

Alright I need to boot up my work laptop and see what the week ahead holds.............
