Thursday 6/12 - Cloudy Chat

    Thursday 6/12 - Cloudy Chat

Well, the weather has changed and we no longer have bright blue skies.  They said some showers are due today, maybe tomorrow.  Frankly, I'll welcome the rain because it might wash some of the grass pollen out of the air.  I think I've contributed to the increase in profits for Kleenex this week!

Is today Bugsy's X-ray appointment, or was it yesterday?  Hopefully Karen will check in.  I've been thinking a lot about both of them.

The carpet cleaning guy is returning today to do some more aggressive treatment of the fish oil problem.  I sure hope he can take care of it.  It looks worse each day as more dirt gets attracted by lingering oils in the carpet.

It sure has been quiet here lately!

I hope they can get that oil out.

Yes, it's been way too quiet here.  I'm just now taking a lunch break or I wouldn't be posting either.

We've had pretty heavy rain all week, but, at least it's kept the temp down to tolerable for me.

Tracy, sorry your blue skies are gone. Good luck with the carpet cleaning, round two.

Karen is at the vet's as I type this.  I'm sure she'll update when she can.  Fingers and toes all crossed here for them.

Busy, busy, busy. That's what happens when you work for an air conditioning contractor in Texas and it's summertime. :)

I spoke to the shelter manager about the city council meeting tonight.  She said she has 66 slides to present.  She wants them to get a good idea of what 60+ dogs look like in a shelter that has 16 kennel runs. :(

Good thoughts for all. Super busy here.

GingerD's cremains are back. Going to stop after work and pick them up. Sad

Surprise Surprise Oh my gosh -- that's a ridiculously low number of kennels for that volume of dogs!  And this is a county-funded shelter, Jackie?  I could see if it was an independent, private shelter trying to serve an animal population using only funds it can raise itself, but if it's a place that falls under a county/city program, then they're nuts to even discuss cutting the budget.  What do they do -- keep multiple dogs in each run, or do they have a network of foster homes or something?

I hope her slideshow (and vocal, concerned residents like you) convince the powers-that-be what a bad idea it would be to reduce funding.  Keep us posted!

I missed your post while I was typing, Tina.  I'm glad GingerD is going to be back home with you.  I remember what a mix of emotions I felt when we got Tonka's cremains back.   I hope it brings you some comfort to have them with you.

I missed seeing that GingerD had passed :(  Run free GingerD

Karen will probably be by, but I'm so excited I just want to share, that Bugsy is "all clear"!!

I just want to share, that Bugsy is "all clear"!!

Excellent news!  What a relief for Karen and her husband (and all who love Bugsy).  Thanks for the update, Steph!

    Yay for bugsy!

What an ordeal with the fishy carpet. I'm feeling for you! I would not be able to stand that odor.

66 dogs in 16 kennels? Wow. My County is so lucky to have such a good shelter.

I'm exhausted and can't wait to go home. It's been a day.

Wish I didn't have to work tomorrow!

    (((Tina)))

This is a municipal shelter in the little town where I work, not where I live.  Our company has done a lot of pro bono work for this little city so I feel I have a right to speak tonight.   Yep, I bought them six large wire crates last summer so they could put overflow dogs in there as all the runs had at least two dogs and some three and four.

I think we're all feeling super happy about Bugsy. :)

Awesome news about Bugsy!!!!  Karen and her hubby should sleep better now.

((((Tina))))  I hope that bringing her ashes home gives you some comfort; it did when we brought Jessie's ashes home.

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh Tina.  That must be tough for you.  (((hugs)))

Thanks Steph for stepping in to share -this is the first access outside of my phone. Yes, B was declared a freak, and 9 going on 4. The lump of concern is similar to the lump he had in 2011, made of fibrous cells. He did a full check of some other lumps (tested 2 which were fatty) & all joints. The surgeon & I had a lovely chat afterward. I left with this feeling that sometimes life is amazing.

I cannot believe the situation in some areas of the country in animal shelters. NC is mostly horrific, I am sad for your poor shelter workers Jackie

Julie I hope you are feeling better soon.

Tracy I just cannot imagine the fishy carpet. Really. I am sorry.

    Signing off!

    tomorrow is Friday!!!
