With summer barking at our door, there's no better time like the present to prep your four-legged friend for some fun in the sun! Remember, it’s very important to keep your dog safe and cool. No worries, we have all the products you need to get your pup through the dog days of summer!
If you're a boating enthusiast, then your dog can swim in comfort and enjoy a nice day at the lake right along you. Not all dogs can swim, so boating safety is a must. Always best to keep a life vest on your pup just in case they slip or if they have been swimming and may become tired. Very important never leave your dog unattended when boating.
Are you planning a daytrip adventure? It’s important to keep your pet cool and content on road trips when temps get unbearably hot. Remember to pack water and snacks for your pup. Don’t forget the toys! Most dogs settle down and sleep on a road trip but younger dogs may want something to do. Make sure to have some road friendly toys to prevent restlessness and boredom.
Dogs can overheat very quickly because they cannot process heat as efficiently as humans can. Keeping them cool on a hot day is crucial. Signs your dog may be in distress from the heat are very heavy panting, upset stomach, and acting lethargic. If you suspect your dog may be overheating, get him or her into a cool place right away, DO NOT give ice cold water because it can upset the stomach. You want to cool down gradually by using a lukewarm tub and adding cold water to it. You can also hold a bag of ice near the heart or on the paws to help cool down safely. Always contact a vet immediately to make sure your dog is ok.
Summer can also be rough on a dog’s skin and may cause “hot spots”. To help soothe the sting of those nasty skin issues during the summer, we recommend dog shampoos that help clean and soothe irritated skin. Before using any kind of shampoo on a skin irritation, be sure to consult your vet first.
Does your dog suffer from seasonal allergies or may have just recovered from some flea issues? You may want to try a supplement to help your dog get through allergy season. Some allergies can be more severe and require something a bit stronger so talk to your vet about properly medicating your pooch. Allergies can also be food related or environmental, so if you think your pet is suffering, discuss with your vet to have an allergy test done. This will let you know exactly what is causing the allergy, and most tests cover a very extensive range of foods, materials and many environmental possibilities.
