Yay for Friday! :) It's sunny today. I hope it keeps up!

It's rainy here right now. I heard that some areas north of me may see snow.

DS has an eye exam today, so he will finally get the rest of his Xmas present (me paying for it).

No real weekend plans here, just hanging out with GingerD.

I always look forward to Fridays, but if I had the energy, I'd do a full cheerleading routine to celebrate today being Friday!  I'm still feeling wiped out from my travels, so I'm psyched to put on my PJs after dinner, watch some stuff on the DVR, and go to bed knowing I have nothing I have to wake up early for tomorrow.  I have no plans for the weekend other than laundry and tidying up some things that were neglected while I was away.

The charity event I went to last night was over by 8:30, so that was good.  It's a charity called SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) that organizes volunteers to work with needy elementary students to help them increase their reading skills.  They were raising money to buy books that are used in the program (the kids get to keep the books when they complete them).  They've got volunteers all over the state.  Reading is one of my passions, and I cannot imagine kids living in homes without books or reading for leisure.  If I weren't already busy with my volunteer hours at our local humane society, I'd volunteer with SMART.  I need to quit my job so I can have more time to volunteer!

DH called and said he just drove by a pan-handler with a funny sign.  It said, "I'm too ugly to strip, so every little bit helps."  I've seen the ones that say, "Why lie, I need a beer," but those aren't as amusing.  At least this guy had a sense of humor!

Tracy, I hope you have a nice relaxing weekend.  That SMART charity sounds like a very worthy one.  I'm a reader too and have been since I was a child.  My parents both loved to read and I'm sure that played a big role in the fact that all of my siblings are big readers too.  It's wonderful to put a book in the hands of a child who can't afford one so that charity is one I'd support too.  I donate my used books to the Women's and Childrens Shelter here.  Books are a way to go somewhere else in your mind and who needs that more than women and kids escaping a bad situation?

We closed the office early today.  Color me happy.  Every year we have a celebration here called Fiesta.  It lasts almost two weeks, now that they extended it six days.  Today is one of three parades that take place during the event.  Today is the Battle of Flowers Parades.  The floats are pretty awesome.  We don't usually go because of the huge crowds but I've been a few times.  The reason that fits into my comment about closing early is the entire city shuts down by noon.  All city offices are closed and many businesses close early.  We closed because we wanted to extend our weekend a little. :)   Viva Fiesta!

I think we're in the last half on the Minnesota Possible Snow Season.  Uff da.!!!

Tried to open a swimming pool yesterday in the cold rain (with ice particles).  The underground plumbing was frozen.

Poor children start out far behind in school due to a lack of books in their houses.  My wife, as a former elementary teacher, has a huge collection of childrens' liturature.  I think one of the reasons she went into teaching was to have a reason for buying all those books. Donating to a shelter sounds like a great way to keep those books in service.

Lugnut is working on manners and retrieving.  He sees kids, he forgets how to think and is all over them.  He is a project underway.  He loves green tennis balls and dummys, so he gets a lot of chasing in.  Now, to get him to give the dummy back to me.

Groan.  Fridays are always busy, but my gosh, this Friday was non-stop busy and I'm whipped..  Of course, part of that could be that I was up late last night, that I've been packing every day after work for two or three hours and am not looking for much of a weekend break with pre-move stuff.  Sigh.

I too am a reader and that program sounds AWESOME.  I actually wanted to repeat first grade so that I could figure out how I learned to read, and boy, once I started, I never stopped.  I'd read books in each and every level of the SRA plan, because I was always in the top reading group, and the school library didn't have enough books to satisfy me.  My parents were always too busy to read, raising 4 kids and Dad working two jobs, but Mother enjoys reading now.  When I take lunch, I do so with a book, and I sure don't answer the phone when I'm on my book break!

I'm going to be crazed most of the weekend, so if I don't make it to the forum, I hope all of you have a great weekend!
