    Happy Monday chat 4-7-14

Good morning from Ginger D! She had a busy weekend - went to work with a friend on Saturday morning for a couple of hours (the pic is her in the office). Then we went to a park yesterday and she couldn't get enough of all the smells. It was pee-mail galore!

I took my mower in to get ready for summer. I still have hope that we'll see green grass sometime.

The service engine light came on in my truck. That made me Sad.

    Hi everyone....

bummer about your truck that's never fun, hope its ok.

my weekend wasn't the best my boyfriends gram passed away so was a very low weekend. Sunday the weather here was beautiful I got Grux out for a nice walk he really needed it.

I hope the mood here lifts up. Have a good day everyone.

Michele, I'm sorry to hear about your boyfriend's gram passing away.

GingerD looks like she's having a good time at work.  :)  Sorry about your engine light coming on.  Hope it's just a sensor that needs replacing and nothing major.

Beautiful morning here today with sunshine and cool temps.  It finally cleared up late yesterday afternoon.

Rex had a great time at the vet on Saturday.  Made friends with all the dogs in the lobby and three little kids who fell in love with him.  The littlest girl was about four years old.  She was about as tall as Rex when he's sitting.  She put her cheek on top of his head and said "I love you Rex."   :)

And another fantastic day in the land of 10,000 partially frozen lakes.  Had the Lugnut down to the lower Swan Lake WMR for a run yesterday.  Birds everywhere.  It is amazing how far a goose can call.  Pup was walking on thin ice and went swimming.  he did not panic, but stroked for the shore.  The class was worth it.

The "check engine" light has been on in my truck for the last 150,000 miles.  I get nervous when it goes out.

Pup had a nose to nose with the lab across the street.  Went well.  A strange dog walked through the front yard while Guns was watching.  He does have an adult bark, and a sense of territory.

Had fresh walleye for dinner last night.  Nothing fancy, but it was good.  Wife, who does not like strong fish, had seconds.  I'll wait a few days, and cook up another batch.  Maybe with cheese this time.

Cleaning up and rebuilding the outside kennel.  Piper hadn't seen the inside for several years, so it just went into disrepair.  Pup likes fresh air, and explored the kennel while I was working on it.  We may discover just how loud is bark is, though.

    Got errands and yard work,

    Doug

I finally just got rid of my check engine light. The timing belt was cracked so it kept skipping now and then. My car is burning oil like crazy these days. Yay for old engines! But I'm so cheap I refuse to get a new car! No car payments!! no no no! hahaha

I'm loving this spring weather!!! Walk walk walks yaaaaaaay and just in time b/c our new dog Onyx is so afraid of the leash (just like Lilly used to be). So I just need to keep walk walk walking and he will get over it. Worked for Lilly. I remember when she used to spaz out over cars and dogs and people. She's just NUMB to everyone and everything now walks so perfectly next to the stroller. Then you've got poor Onyx choking himself and twirling and bucking like "FML!!!" lol!! maybe we will go down a quieter street next time....

There is (who I think) a new woman on the block with a very large dog (didn't see her last year). Great Dane size but looks like a Coonhound so maybe a mix. And she just rudely goes RIGHT BEHIND YOU and poor Onyx is freaking out she goes "you are my motivation for my dog to move forward" (as he's practically dragging her) I was like well this is my dogs first couple times on the leash... ugh *picks up Onyx* Why are some dog owners so annoying?... Allowing their dogs to drag them and lunge at us, bark at us... like really? really? Oye sorry had to vent LOL you know I hate to be judgmental but it's just rude and annoying I'm trying to walk my dog so CONTROL YOUR DOG. Or don't have one. Or at least make an attempt to control them. No my dog doesn't want to say hello to your overly dominate excited dog thank you hahaha Please tell me I'm not the only one this annoys? I'm just going to speak up more and more like "No please back away"

Jes, I'm sure you're not alone in your frustration.  Some people do seem to be unaware (or just don't care) that their dogs create stress for other people or pets on walks.

Unfortunately, we have one of those obnoxious, over-excited dogs that want to barrel over to greet every dog she sees, but we are paranoid about upsetting anyone when we walk her, so we're uber vigilant about watching for other people coming along the route with their dogs.  I can't tell you how many times I've done an about-face or taken a sudden left or right, just to get out of the path of someone coming a few blocks away!  If passing someone can't be avoided due to where we are, then we shove treats under Ruby's nose and move by as fast as possible, sometimes even running!  If she's only panting and whining at them, it's not too scary, but if she gets into her Chewbacca chortling, then it's disturbing!

Tina, that pic of GingerD is so cute.  What a sweet face she has.  I hope your engine light is just one of those stupid computer glitches that indicates nothing and just has to be reset by the service people.

Jackie, the story of the little girl loving on Rex was adorable.  That's the kind of response Tonka generated from children wherever he went.  Melted my heart every single time.

Michele, I'm sorry to hear about your BF losing his grandmother.

Weekend flew by.  Got lots of errands and chores done.  DH was on a cooking frenzy.  Saturday night he made braised short ribs in a pot pie.  So delicious -- buttery crust, tender beef, but I could feel my arteries hardening as I was eating it!  Yesterday he made slow-roasted pork shoulder with a mustard/thyme/rosemary rub.  Also delicious.  Leftovers of both for dinner this week.  Yay!

Poor Onyx.  Maybe you should let him get accustomed to the leash before taking him for walks that obviously terrify him.  JMHO.

Tracy, I'm on my way.  I love good leftovers. :)

I'm fine if people are aware of it and stop and even let us pass quickly or whatever but ALLOWING the dog to charge us is so in appropriate. :(

Oh we did let him warm up he did great in the house and backyard... Walk? Nope! Just way too much going on. I'm gonna take him at night. Away from dogs and people for a bit.

Love the picture of Ginger D.  I think that someone here once said that their check engine light came on because the gas cap wasn't on properly?  Sometimes it can be the littlest thing......here's hoping.

Michelle, I'm also sorry to hear about your boyfriends gramma.  Even if it's expected, it's just so hard to say goodbye.

What works for one, doesn't always work for another.  This is true in dogs, kids, people.......my oldest DS was terrified of water because his "dad" liked to throw him in, while the youngest LOVED it.  Slow and steady with swimming lessons was the only thing that "cured" that fear.  HE had to learn to master the water so he didn't fear it.  And I had to keep explaining to him that once he knew how to swim, he'd find nothing to be afraid of.  But, he's human and could understand what I was saying.

Sometimes a dog can be gotten used to something he/she is afraid of.  Sometimes you simply have to work your rear off to desensitize them to whatever it is that they fear.  Unfortunately, one size just doesn't fit all.

Not to be a grouch, but if  John Q Public is walking down the street minding his own business, why does it become HIS job to be aware of someone elses animal and react in a way that person deems appropriate?  I don't mean to sound bitchy, but not all people "get" dogs and dog behavior and they don't know how to act in lots of situations.  I'm just saying.......

Today was just way too busy.  I almost freak when I saw the CAT scan machine.  I saw it from the end and not the side, so didn't realize it wasn't a long tube.  MRI's completely freak me out and I'm usually sedated for those, so I wasn't expecting to need to be for this, and in fact, it was fine.  I'm a baby when it comes to itty bitty places.

    @glenmar
I think that someone here once said that their check engine light came on because the gas cap wasn't on properly?

Actually, the last time my check engine light came on I'd posted and Joyce had responded about the gas cap. That time was when I had the hole in the top of my gas tank. I ended up having to replace the whole gas tank.

I did stop for gas this Saturday after the light came on, so I know it wasn't that. My truck is 10 years old and has only 37,500 miles on it. Really.

    Hey GingerD!!

LOL Ruby I bet Bugsy would think you are F.U.N.!!

Rex, you are too sweet :)

Doug I know Bugsy would love Guns. He met an Italian Spinone on Saturday at the lake and they were like OMG you are my best friend I never met!!

I am so tired I felt ill today. Not good. I may have jam packed my weekend but I feel like I have to or I'll have no life at all.

This big project they have me on has everyone stressed out. I am not really stressed, reasonably so due to the short time scales but not like the others. I have a full day tomorrow teaching something else and then I must go full immersion into this big project.

alright I must prep for tomorrow and then crash _ I always watch the NCAA championship but not tonight

My check engine light was on in my Subaru--turned out to be a really minor thing that needed to be repaired.

News: Today, I found out I got the green light to adopt a yellow Lab (who recently had to have his left eye removed). He'll move here to the island in about a month--I'll post pictures ASAP. He's young (for me)--about 2 1/2 years old. Mozey will love having a "brother" again!

GingerD--you look like you fit right in at the office!
